Chic celebrity wedding dresses prove that stars’ sartorial influence extends far beyond the streets and red carpet. Indeed, some of the most influential fashion moments are the white (or otherwise) dresses adorned by our favourite style savants to walk down the aisle.

While the nuptial ceremonies themselves have perpetually dictated wedding trends—see: the rise in low-key elopements like Lily Allen and David Harbour’s wedding, which involved an after-party at In’N’Out—celebrity wedding dresses rightfully serve as a useful resource for those looking to tie the knot.

These dresses, like Kate Moss’ custom John Galliano garden fairy gown or Chloë Sevigny’s trio of avant-garde looks, are the foundation of bridal fashion. Not only are they stitched with sentimentality, but they offer a glimpse of each A-lister’s approach to matrimonial style. Considering that a wedding is often regarded as one of life’s biggest milestones, selecting the right dress for you is almost akin to finding the life partner to meet you at the altar.

Ahead, GRAZIA guides you through the best celebrity wedding dresses to have and to hold on top of your bridal mood board. Whether you’re a bride-to-be or curious to see what was worn on these famous figure’s big day, scroll below for the best celebrity wedding dresses that will make you want to walk down the aisle.

The Best Celebrity Wedding Dresses

1. Bianca Jagger

In 1970, Nicaraguan human rights advocate and socialite Bianca Jagger (née Pérez-Mora Macías) met The Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger at a concert afterparty in France. Less than a year later, the pair married in the luxurious seaside region of Saint-Tropez. Jagger was four months pregnant with the couple’s first and only child, Jade Jagger, at the time.

Her Yves Saint Laurent white skirt suit was a beacon of liberation and unconventional wedding attire, with the designer’s iconic Le Smoking Jacket and bias cut skirt pioneering rebellious bridal looks. Music legends like Paul McCartney, Keith Richards and Eric Clapton, were in attendance, but it’s the wedding dress that’s gone on to have the most cultural impact, with the style even influencing the zeitgeist’s favourite fictional columnist Carrie Bradshaw for her city hall wedding to Mr. Big.

2. Kate Moss

Supermodel Kate Moss walked down the aisle in 2011 when she married British musician and guitarist for the indie-rock duo The Kills, Jamie Hince. The pair wed at a bucolic Roaring 20s-inspired wedding in the English countryside. The nuptials combined the ethereal fairy garden aesthetic of Shakespear’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Cotswold elegance, but it was Moss’ John Galliano-designed gown that stole the show. Speaking on the bespoke gown, the designer and creative director explained the process of imaging the wedding dress was like “creative rehab”.

3. Lily Allen

British musician Lily Allen and Stranger Things star David Harbour cemented the tone of the 2020s with a very-apt COVID-19 pandemic wedding. Restrictions around social distancing and mask mandates prompted the pair to head to Las Vegas to elope at the Graceland Wedding Chapel. The It’s Not You, It’s Me songstress made the case for the short wedding dress in a boatneck Dior mini with double-breasted buttons. The couple stopped for In’N’Out takeaway after the wedding with Allen’s two daughters, Ethel Mary and Marnie Rose.

Speaking on the wedding, Harbour remarked with tongue-in-cheek: “In a wedding officiated by the king himself, the people’s princess wed her devoted, low born, but kind credit card holder in a beautiful ceremony lit by the ashen skies courtesy of a burning state miles away in the midst of a global pandemic.”

“Refreshments were served at a small reception following,” he joked about the fast-food wedding banquet in the caption of his Instagram post celebrating the milestone.

4. Chloë Sevigny

While Chloë Sevigny technically married her Serbian artist husband Siniša Mačković in a town-hall wedding in New York, it was her trio of avant-garde gowns at her second hometown ceremony in Connecticut that piqued the interest of fashion acolytes. For the community church ceremony, Sevigny began with look eight from Glenn Martens’ collaboration for Jean Paul Gaultier couture. Later, she changed into a custom Loewe dress featuring a mini skirt and lace sash before ending the evening with a club-kid couture Mugler catsuit designed by Casey Cadwallader which Sevigny described as a “super flower blood moon total lunar eclipse catsuit”.

5. Hailey Bieber

Hailey Bieber née Baldwin married Canadian singer Justin Bieber in a secret courthouse wedding in New York two months after he proposed to her with an 18-carat oval-cut engagement ring. In September 2019, the pair celebrated with a star-studded wedding ceremony in South Carolina where the bride wore the most searched celebrity wedding dress of all time.

The gown in question was a custom creation designed by Virgil Abloh for Off-White. The lace dress put a modern twist on tradition with an off-the-shoulder silhouette and mermaid finish. Pearls designed in the shape of Off-White’s motifs, including arrows, were embroidered into the lace, but the pièce de résistance was the veil appliquéd with the phrase “Till death do us part”.

6. Sofia Richie Grainge

Arguably the most discussed wedding of 2023, Sofia Richie Grainge opted for a triplet of Chanel gowns for her wedding to music executive Elliot Grainge at the South of France’s luxurious Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc. The Antibes ceremony redefined the term destination wedding, with the ‘old money’ aesthetic trending on social media as a result of their whirlwind wedding weekend. Guests, including Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and Cameron Diaz, watched on as Richie Grainge donned Chanel gown after Chanel gown for the affair.

All overseen by creative director Virginie Viard, Richie Grainge explained she and the atelier were inspired by the halcyon haute couture days of the 90s. Her ceremony look was a recreation of a gown worn by Stella Tennant at the maison’s 1997 couture fall show. Richie Grainge ended the evening singing along to her brother-in-law and Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden’s hit single “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous” in a mini inspired by Claudia Schiffer.

7. Zoe Kravitz

Zoë Kravitz wed actor Karl Glusman, who you may recognise as Lily-Rose Depp’s ex-boyfriend in The Idol, in a dreamy Parisian ceremony in 2019. The couple chose the Haussaman-style townhouse owned by Kravtiz’s rockstar father, Lenny Kravitz, for the location of their wedding. Fitting with her cool-girl street style, Kravitz’s rehearsal dinner ensemble involved ivory satin bike shorts and a matching bralette altered under a beaded net dress designed by cult-favourite bridal brand Danielle Frankel.

Her ceremony dress was an Alexander Wang-designed drop-waist subtle princess gown inspired by the Givenchy wedding gown worn by Audrey Hepburn in 1957’s Funny Face. Though the couple has since split, we may be blessed with another look at Kravtiz’s bridal taste at her upcoming wedding to fiancé Channing Tatum.

8. Diana Ross

Before Tracee Ellis Ross was the zeitgeist’s go-to Ross for style inspiration, her music legend mother, Diana Ross, owned that mantle. Case in point: Diana Ross’ satin slip wedding dress. The Supremes songstress wed her second husband, Arne Naess, Jr, in a body-conscious gown featuring lace long-sleeve detailing in 1985.

9. Nicola Peltz Beckham

Nicola Peltz Beckham wed David and Victoria Beckham’s eldest child and oldest son, Brooklyn Beckham in 2022. The Peltz Beckham nuptials were surrounded by scrutiny after rumours emerged that Victoria and Nicola were not on speaking terms prior to the wedding. But images from their ceremony showed no evidence of ill-will. Hosted at Nicola’s million-dollar mansion in Palm Beach, Florida, the bride wore a three-piece Dior suit designed by Kim Jones for the rehearsal dinner and a minimal Valentino gown designed by Pierpaolo Piccioli for the ceremony. The couple were inspired by the wedding of David Bowie and Iman, but the luxury oceanfront wedding weekend was the definition of 21st Century romance.

10. Emily Ratajkowski

Having opted for a sensual Saks Potts creation for Marc Jacobs’ 2019 wedding, it should’ve been clear that Emily Ratajkowski’s own bridal look would be anything but conventional. The model married film producer Sebastian Bear-McClard at a courthouse wedding in City Hall. For the occasion, she wore a mustard suit from high-end retailer Zara that cost less than $250.

Speaking of her unconventional wedding attire, Ratajkowski told Vanity Fair that she “never loved the idea of wearing white for a wedding because I’m not a pure woman.” “I’m a woman with a lot of character and experience and life. I also just loved the idea of a suit, especially at City Hall because it’s like you’re taking care of business,” she added. “I really wanted to wear red actually, initially… and then I just loved mustard yellow and just knew it was the one.”

Ratajkowski separated from McClard after he was accused of sexual misconduct by several women. She later entered her divorcee and single-mother era in equal style and aplomb: dating Harry Styles and turning her trendsetting Toi et Moi engagement ring into a set of “divorce diamonds“.

11. Kate, The Princess of Wales

Kate Middleton’s wedding to Prince William was one of the world’s most viewed events as tens of millions of people watched on as the pair exchanged vows at Westminster Abbey. The Princess of Wales was a v-neck ivory satin gown and lace bodice designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. Hallmarks of the gown include a nine-foot train, a Cartier Halo Tiara created in 1936 and lent to her by Queen Elizabeth II and botanicals representing the countries of the United Kingdom embroidered into the gown. (A motif befitting for the future Queen Consort).  The marriage of the second in line to the British throne was attended by 1900 guests, including the royal family and notable British figures like David and Victoria Beckham.

12. Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex

Meghan Markle wed Prince Harry at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in 2018. The pair were engaged in 2017, a year after Prince Harry saw the dog-filtered image of Markle on Snapchat and the pair met on a blind date at a Soho House in London. This contemporary beginning blossomed into a traditional redding befitting for the senior royals, as Markle walked down the aisle in a boat-neck silk organza gown designed by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy.

Sweet nods to Meghan’s American roots featured in the California poppy embroidered into her veil alongside the botanics symbolic of the Commonwealth. A piece of Princess Diana’s wedding dress was also sewn into Markle’s gown to represent the “something old” and “something borrowed” tradition. Markle changed into an open-back, halter-neck dress designed by Stella McCartney for their reception at Frogmore House.

13. Anya Taylor-Joy

Though reports lead us to believe that Anya Taylor-Joy wore a beige Dior dress to her Venice wedding to musician Malcolm McRae, the actress took to Instagram to reveal that the pair had actually secretly gotten married in New Orleans on April Fools. The first ceremony involved anatomical heart wedding desserts inspired by the 1994 gothic film Interview with the Vampire—Taylor-Joy compared herself to Tom Cruise’s undead character Lestat de Lioncourt during the nuptials—and an intimate ceremony attended by Cara Delevingne.

The newlyweds then threw a bigger event in the canal-side Italian city where the bride reprised her Maria Grazia Chiuri-designed gown. The wedding dress was embroidered with their “love story”, including a hummingbird said to represent love and luck and the couple’s astrological signs. (For context, Taylor-Joy and McRae are both Aries and share a birthday, which is a very auspicious zodiac pairing.)

Ariana Grande’s bridal look was the epitome of the celebrity wedding dress after she met the designer of her gown, Vera Wang, at the 2018 Met Gala. It’s reported she promised Wang that she would call on her when the time came to walk down the aisle, which she did when it came to marry her realtor fiancé, Dalton Gomez, at her Montecito home wedding. The couple subsequently split up in mid-2023 after it was reported Grande was dating her Wicked co-star Ethan Slater. Grande chronicled the breakdown of her relationship on her seventh studio album, Eternal Sunshine.
