It was the last summer of the 90s, or more importantly, the millennium, when Victoria and David Beckham, then known by the moniker “Posh and Becks” descended on a castle outside of Dublin for their wedding.
The day itself featured all the trimmings of pre-Y2K opulence. There were crowns, thrones and even a then 3-month-old Brooklyn Beckham in his own white tuxedo, despite the former Spice Girl has since described the nuptials as “more intimate than it looks”.
Now, 24 years on, the Beckhams are looking back on their decades-long romance, sharing candid photos of the pair and proving that with a stellar wedding comes a stellar wedding anniversary.
Celebrating their 24th wedding anniversary on July 4th, both the fashion designer and former soccer player took to social media to reminisce and commemorate the occasion.
48-year-old David shared a photo taken around 1997, when the pair first started dating, with the couple holding their Rottweiler puppies, Puffy and Snoop.
“24 years and counting 👵🏼 ,” wrote Beckham in the caption. “To the best wife, mummy & drinking partner (most of the time 🤪) Happy Anniversary love u so much ❤️,” he added.
Victoria followed suit with the affectionate tongue-in-cheek post by sharing her own Instagram carousel, writing, “Still holding hands and still laughing (with you not just at you) I love you so much.”
Amongst the throwback photos shared were several unseen gems of the pair, including a very late-90s David in a Chicago Bulls basketball jersey and New York Yankees baseball cap and a picture of the couple yachting in Portofino in 1997.
Three of the couple’s four children, Brooklyn, 24, Romeo, 20 and Cruz, 18, also celebrated the milestone on their respective Instagram accounts.
The Beckham’s youngest and only daughter, Harper Seven, didn’t share her wishes for her parents on social media as the 11-year-old is yet to join any platform.
She did, however, attend David and Victoria’s luxe wedding anniversary celebrations at an upmarket restaurant in London, posing alongside her mother with a vintage Louis Vuitton x Takashi Murakami Pochette from 2004. A subtle sartorial nod to her parent’s 24 years together, perhaps?
The traditional wedding anniversary gift is opal, though any wise woman would know that diamonds are a pertinent gift every year, however, the Beckhams eschewed this archetype for something suitable to their posh lifestyle: Hermès.
The style savant didn’t share what was inside the gargantuan orange box, but it’s clear by the size that David didn’t gift Victoria her sixteenth engagement ring.
In 2017, Victoria penned a letter to her 18-year-old self, in turn inadvertently divulging the secret to their now 24-year marriage: “Have patience. Bite your tongue. Be supportive. And preserve a bit of mystique. Never let yourself go completely.” A mantra we’re committing to memory.
