Sofia Richie revealed that she converted to Judaism ahead of her wedding to her fiancé, founder of independent record label 10K Projects, Elliot Grainge.
The daughter of Lionel Richie and Diane Alexander shared the news on her Instagram Stories on Monday with a photo of herself signing a document written in Hebrew.
“What a magical day,” she wrote. “I want to thank cantor Nathan Lam for helping me along this journey of converting to Judaism. It has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. Today was that day!!!”
Richie added the Star of David emojis at the end of her message.
Richie got engaged to the music executive in April 2022 when he popped the question with a hefty emerald-cut diamond. When Grainge got down on one knee, they were surrounded by scattered flower petals and candles in a tropical setting. The model captioned her social media post, “Forever isn’t long enough.”
While Grainge is Jewish, Richie has previously opened up about being raised Christian and attending Oaks Christian school in Los Angeles. She told Complex in 2016, “I went there for two years, and that’s where I got my sense. My family wanted church to be a place we all went together. My dad was always traveling and my mom was always working. School is where I did Bible classes and studied God.”
The 24-year-old has been romantically linked to the 29-year-old son of Sir Lucian Grainge, the chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group, since going Instagram official in March of 2021.
When Entertainment Tonight reported the news of the couple’s relationship in April 2021, the outlet said that Richie and Grainge “have been friends for years and Elliot is also close with Sofia’s brother, Miles,” noting her family’s approval.
The couple celebrated their engagement party in May of last year over Memorial Day weekend, seemingly at the family home with some of their nearest and dearest in attendance. Richie also celebrated her bridal shower in February with her sister, Nicole Richie, her mother, her fiancé and a large group of friends. She wore bridal white, opting for a plunging knit halter dress, which she wore with her blonde hair in loose waves, adding a chic pair of white heels.
Richie recently posted a photo of herself wearing a gray sweater, dark-wash jeans and pink flats with the caption, “The countdown begins 👰🏼♀️.”
Based on the chic looks she’s worn ahead of the wedding, we can’t wait to see what Richie‘s bridal gown looks like.
