The high-fashion hooded gown had a very big moment in 2022. First, they showed up in the collections of Coperni, Versace, Alberta Ferretti, Saint Laurent and Maison Alaïa, then swiftly landed on red carpets everywhere.
The hooded gown is nothing new, but its captivating quality remains timeless. Azzedine Alaïa catapulted the aesthetic in the 1980s with a little help from none other than Grace Jones. Sporting his mystical, slinky garments both on and off the runway, Jones called upon the late Tunisian couturier to help curate her wardrobe for the 1985 James Bond movie, A View to a Kill, bringing his signature hooded designs to the screen.

Current creative director Pieter Mulier has revived the perennial house staple. Recently, Margot Robbie walked the Babylon red carpet in a hooded design. Bella Hadid pulled from the 1980s archives for the 2022 Fashion Trust Arabia Prize awards ceremony.
Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello presented his Spring/Summer 2023 ready-to-wear collection during Paris Fashion Week this September with models strutting down the runway sporting looks with strong shoulders, torso cutouts, and of course, hoods. It called to mind the early days of the heritage house, when founding designer Yves Saint Laurent presented the Fall/Winter 1969 “Empreintes” collection, as well as the brand’s Fall/Winter 1991 collection.

Supermodels Kate Moss and Amber Valletta, actresses Laura Harrier and Olivia Wilde, Blackpink’s Rosé and Beyoncé have all taken Vaccarello’s goddess-worthy hooded confections from the SS23 line for a spin this year.
GRAZIA USA rounded up over 30 of the best hooded looks of 2022 from your favorite A-list stars. Many were given a distinctively modern and avant-garde spin through the silhouettes and styling, and we’re sure the look will continue to trend well will into 2023. See our favorites from the year, below.
