Shania Twain is giving fans exactly what they want — lots and lots of fabulous leopard-print looks. The triple-diamond album winner attended the 2022 People’s Choice Awards on Tuesday evening to receive the Music Icon Award for her significant contributions to the music industry and took the opportunity to pay homage to her iconic leopard-print ensemble from the 1998 music video for “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”

The legendary songstress donned a custom Rodarte leopard-print silk and velvet gown to walk the red carpet. The ensemble featured a bandeau top with a connecting hood and cascading shawl with a sheer black mesh long-sleeve bodysuit and floor-length black velvet skirt. Twain modernized her look even further with cotton-candy pink hair, dramatic long lashes and a bold pink lip.

The track “That Don’t Impress Me Much” was released as a single from the 1997 album, Come On Over and quickly gained notoriety for Twain’s show-stopping Marc Bouwer-designed ensemble. In the video, the musician wore a long hooded leopard-print coat, a matching bejeweled bandeau bra top and flared leopard pants. She carried a leopard-print suitcase as she scouted, then turned down, men because as the song goes, they “don’t impress me much.”

Twain performed a compilation of her greatest hits at the 2022 People’s Choice Awards, including “That Don’t Impress Me Much.” She replaced her memorable lyric about Brad Pitt with a new Hollywood heartthrob, Ryan Reynolds. “Okay, so you’re Ryan Reynolds,” she sang. “That don’t impress me much.”

The five-time Grammy Award winner recalled making the beloved music video in her 2022 Netflix documentary Shania Twain: Not Just a Girl. “With music videos, I’m always trying to do something new and different,” Twain said. “I like stepping into different personas, but they’ve always got to work for me. So, I guess I start with just how I want to look. I would always gravitate toward the leopard print, in any color. Oh, and I wanted midriff. It had to have midriff, this video. I wanted it to be kind of sporty-sexy. Glam.”

Fashion designer and longtime collaborator Marc Bouwer said, “I knew that Shania loved leopard, and I loved leopard print myself. So, we decided to do a complete leopard look. She used fashion, and clothing, and costumes very much to her benefit, because she created some of the most iconic looks ever.”

“She really played with fashion in music videos,” added 29-year-old country music star Kelsea Ballerini. “She really played with being confident in her body as a woman.”

Ballerini recently paid tribute to Twain’s influence at the 15th Annual Academy of Country Music Honors in August, opting to wear Twain’s exact 1999 Grammys dress to the ceremony.

The shimmering form-fitting white Marc Bouwer turtleneck long-sleeve gown was worn by Twain at the 41st Annual Grammy Awards, where she took home wins for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and Best Country Song for “You’re Still the One.” The gown was loaned to Ballerini, 28, from the Grammy Museum for 24 hours, as it’s currently featured in its Power of Women in Country Music exhibition.

No matter the decade, her fashions still resonate today.
