Head-turning, jaw-dropping- however you define it, the pervasive cutout trend is one of unadulterated sex appeal and clear-cut shock value. The slice and diced silhouette has infiltrated runways, red carpets, Instagram, and street style, leaving little to the imagination while providing an endless amount of inspiration. Embraced by our favorite luxury labels, stylists, and celebs, the cutout trend’s omnipresent slits and peeks have been around every corner. With Dua Lipa’s little black carved out Christopher Esber number she donned for her brother’s wedding, to her slinky and shimmering Georgios Trochopoulos mini she sported on vacation, our resident It-girl has obviously endorsed the naked trend.

With labels like Mônot, David Koma, Aliétte, and Nensi Dojaka all making our 2022 designers to watch list, cutouts seem to be each of their fortes. After Kendall Jenner attended her friend Lauren Perez’s wedding this autumn, the internet collectively lost its mind at the scandalous diamond cutout Mônot confection she opted to wear for the occasion.

Continuing to saturate our feeds, the barely-there ensembles reveal more than just skin, as it represents a form of freedom and body-positivity. The standout style statements have emerged as fashion fan favorites, defining the shape in both covert and overt ways. Circular holes, thigh-high slits, pelvic cutouts, fashion floss, and deconstructed straps all embody this desirable design. From the minute to the extreme, the cutout clothing trend seems to be here to stay.
