Sydney Sweeney and her fiancé Jonathan Davino are still going strong. The couple stepped out together on Friday night for a rare date night amid rumors that the relationship has been on the rocks while Sweeney was filming steamy scenes with her Anyone But You co-star Glen Powell.
In photographs obtained by the Daily Mail, Sweeney and Davino went to Sake No Hana in New York City, after Sweeney celebrated the Armani Beauty My Way fragrance launch. The pair wore matching leather ensembles, with Sweeney in a black mini dress under an oversized black Khaite leather moto “Tania” jacket with zipper embellishments. She teamed it with black sheer stockings and black knee-high leather boots. Davino chose a black leather bomber jacket over a plain black tee, black trousers and black Chelsea boots for the occasion.
Sweeney and Davino’s engagement was announced in February 2022. The two have been linked since 2018, but famously keep their relationships under wraps and out of the spotlight.
Sweeney has never publicly commented on the state of their relationship but told Cosmopolitan in her centerfold in January 2022, “I don’t date people in the spotlight. I don’t date actors or musicians or anyone in entertainment because I can just be normal Syd that way and it’s easiest. I have a great support system.”
Since production began on Sweeney’s upcoming romantic comedy, Anyone But You, rumors have been swirling about her relationship with fellow actor Powell.
Throughout production of the movie, the two leads have been spending their free time living it up in Australia, going to amusement parks with the rest of the cast, visiting the zoo, attending football games and doing touristy sightseeing — all while posting candid photos on social media along the way.
News then broke that Powell’s girlfriend of three years, Gigi Paris unfollowed Sweeney on Instagram, sparking speculation that her relationship with the Top Gun: Maverick actor was on the rocks.
When Powell and Sweeney did press for their movie at CinemaCon last week, their palpable chemistry on the carpet had everyone talking. Days later, it was reported that Powell and Paris officially split. People confirmed that the pair broke up weeks ago. A source told the publication, “Gigi and Glen had broken up several times. They had been on the rocks since Top Gun came out. Gigi was never happy with the long distance filming and when she came to Australia they both decided to break up for good.”
Many have wondered if their chemistry is merely a marketing ploy to garner excitement for the film. Some social media posts have seemed more intimate than others — recently, Sweeney posted a video of Powell dipping her backwards while she was decked out in a swimsuit, which is not necessarily something a girlfriend would enjoy seeing.
After all the speculation last week, it looks like Sweeney and her fiancé are still going strong.
