Sydney Sweeney is a busy bee in 2023. It was announced that she’s adding to her slew of forthcoming projects, and will star in a new romantic comedy, opposite Top Gun: Maverick actor Glen Powell.

According to Deadline, Sony Pictures has acquired the R-rated flick, directed by filmmaker Will Gluck of Friends with Benefits and Easy A fame. Gluck will also produce alongside Joe Roth, and Jeff Kirschenbaum as part of a deal with Sony and his company Olive Bridge Entertainment.  Sweeney will sign on as executive producer through her company Fifty-Fifty Films, with Alyssa Altman and Natalie Sellers from RK Films.

While film is still without a title, and much of the plot remains under wraps, the film is based on a script written by Ilana Wolpert, which Gluck is rewriting. Production is expected to begin in Australia next month.

Powell took to Instagram with the news, posting the Deadline article announcing the project and writing, “Won a trip to Australia with my fancy friends. So excited for this one…✈️🦘 🔥❤️.” Sweeney did the same with the caption, “see you soon mate ;).” Powell commented on Sweeney’s post, “Sydney in Sydney 🔥🔥🔥.”

Last year, Sweeney landed a double-Emmy nomination for her work in the HBO smash hits Euphoria and The White Lotus. This year, Sweeney will star in the upcoming Marvel film Madame Web alongside Dakota Johnson, Tony Tost’s directorial debut National Anthem, and Reality, Tina Satter’s film based on the American intelligence specialist and whistle-blower Reality Winner.

In October, Deadline reported that Sweeney will star in and executive produce the new Barbarella movie for Sony Pictures. The studio hasn’t named a director or writer yet, but the film is based on Jean-Claude Forest’s French comic book series on a space-age vixen that was later turned into the 1968 movie starring Jane Fonda.

She’s also attached to an upcoming adaptation of The Registration by Madison Lawson. Deadline announced the news in July, and Sweeney is set to both star and executive produce.

And don’t forget, season 3 of Euphoria is also on the horizon. We’ll be keeping an eye on everything she’s juggling, so watch this space.
