Appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday, Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney dished on everything from fixing up her vintage Bronco truck, to her Cosmopolitan centerfold, MMA training, and of course, Euphoria.
Calling her character, Cassie Howard a “basket case,” Sweeney explained, “She’s fallen in love with her best friend’s boyfriend, and it doesn’t go well. I don’t recommend it.”
When asked how her family feels about the more explicit scenes on the show, Sweeney explained that she invited her entire extended family to the premiere, including her grandparents. Too overwhelmed with excitement, Sweeney didn’t think about the sex scenes in the season 2 opener.
“I was like, ‘It’s a Hollywood premiere! You’ve got to come!’ And we were all sitting next to each other and…giant screen. Like, ginormous screen,” she said, laughing over the embarrassing moment of her scene with Nate Jacobs (played by Jacob Elordi).
When a shocked DeGeneres asked how they responded to Sweeney’s nude scenes, the actress replied, “They said I have the best tits in Hollywood.” The White Lotus actress’ grandmother even waved from the audience, giving a thumbs-up in approval.
Having been vocal about the stigma attached to nude scenes in Hollywood, Sweeney has said that the unnecessary bias attached can, at times, foreshadow her acting in the HBO series. She opened up about it to The Independent, saying how proud she is of her work on the HBO show. “But no one talks about it because I got naked,” she said. “I do The White Lotus and all of a sudden critics are paying attention. People are loving me. They’re going, ‘Oh my God, what’s she doing next?’ I was like, ‘Did you not see that in Euphoria? Did you not see that in The Handmaid’s Tale?’”
For her stop on DeGeneres’ show, she was back to auburn locks with wispy bangs (she’s been going from red to blonde lately while filming her new movie National Anthem) wearing a blue floral-print belted Rodarte dress styled by Molly Dickson.
Fans may have a while to wait until season 3 of Euphoria comes back, but in the meantime, Sweeney has been busier than ever. With her burgeoning production company, a new film on the way, her new Jergens campaign, a new fiancé, and now the first celebrity to partner with Korean skincare and makeup company Laneige, Sweeney shows no signs of slowing down.
