It wasn’t easy for Sex and the City fans to come around to the fact that Kim Cattrall, who played publicist Samantha Jones on the hit series, wasn’t going to be appearing as a main character in the remake, And Just Like That.

However, throughout the series, fans got a glimpse of Samantha, as she and Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) occasionally texted.

Though Parker and Cattrall are not on the best terms off-screen, it seems like the former is happy with how everything played out. In the season finale, Carrie flies to Paris, France, to throw Mr. Big’s ashes in the water and visit “their bridge.” After thinking about her late husband, the fashionista texts Samantha, who is now based in London, to see if she wants to come to the City of Light to get drinks. Surprisingly, Samantha obliges.

“It was an idea because Samantha is not gone. The actress that played that role is no longer playing that role, but people aren’t absent from your life when you don’t want them to be. And I thought that, in typical Michael Patrick [King] fashion, he, you know, threaded it through with grace and dignity and respect, you know, and love and affection for that character. And I thought it mimicked many friendships that, you know, challenge each other and struggle and want to remain connected in a way because it’s too painful,” Parker said during her latest appearance on What What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.

Despite Carrie potentially meeting up with her former bestie, it doesn’t look like Cattrall would be joining season 2 any time soon — if it gets green-lit.

“No. Just like there was no thought that Kim would ever participate in And Just Like That, because she’s said what she had said,” King said, referring to Cattrall’s previous comments about the cast and the show.

“The only place I participate in magical thinking is in fiction … Magically thinking, it’s great to have Samantha,” he added. “I have no realistic expectation of Kim Cattrall ever appearing again.”

It’s a shame that Samantha wasn’t there in-person, but King enjoyed adding her into the storyline.

“I’m happy to be Samantha. We use it sparingly and well,” he gushed. “I love Samantha! I’m happy when she’s in the show. It was important emotionally for everybody. Me and the fans; me and the viewer.”
