Just as we were all getting ready to hear the line “Here lies Samantha Jones” in the first season of And Just Like That…, we got some news that may shake the whole Sex and the City universe to its core. It looks like Samantha Jones will not be killed off in the first season of the reboot, contrary to popular theories that sprung about when leaked photos depicted the cast in funeral attire. Fans of the show were immediately keen to conclude that due to Kim Cattrall’s refusal to join the reboot, they’d finish off Samantha’s storyline with the character’s death.

Much akin to real life theories (all speculative), the absence of Cattrall’s coveted vixen-character Samantha will be explained by a falling out between her and Carrie Bradshaw, of course played by Sarah Jessica Parker. This is extremely interesting, because it has been a rumor in the past that the reason Cattrall didn’t return for this series in the first place was due to clashes of personalities on set of the the original Sex and the City. Cattrall claims she just “grew out of her role of Samantha.” But theories range from salary demands not being met to a feud with Sarah Jessica Parker.

“Viewers will learn that Samantha and Carrie have fallen out over Carrie firing Samantha as her publicist and that they no longer talk,” an insider said. “This effectively ends their personal relationship.”

We also learned some other information from an insider statement, it looks like And Just Like That… will be an ongoing series, not just a one off.

“We’ll announce eventually that the show will have a second season. This isn’t a one off, this will be a series,” the insider said. “It will be quite a while between the first and second series as Sarah Jessica Parker has a busy schedule and we have a lot of work to do to get Kim Cattrall back.”

But the question remains, will Cattrall even want to come back? She seems pretty adamant about not wanting to return based on previous statements and concerns. But in reality, can there even be a Sex and the City reboot without Samantha Jones?

“We all miss Kim and we hope she comes back for the second season – the door will never close on her, she is an important part of the franchise.”
