Attention all fashion fanatics: There’s a new book coming soon and we’re deeming it “required reading.” Supermodel Linda Evangelista and acclaimed fashion photographer Steven Meisel just announced they are releasing a new book with publishing house Phaidon. Linda Evangelista Photographed by Steven Meisel will serve as the legendary photographer’s first retrospective monograph and the model’s first book ever.
With an introduction by author and former fashion editor William Norwich, the book encompasses images from the duo’s first photoshoot together in 1987 through 2011, with over 190 photos offering a rare glimpse inside the evolution of their work together. Some shots haven’t been seen in decades, and others have gone down as some of the most memorable images in the industry.
“This book is a celebration of our friendship, and an expression of our gratitude for the lives and careers we’ve been given,” Evangelista and Meisel express in the introduction.
Meisel adds, “Every day that I went to work with Linda, I thought it was very glamorous. We had fun. Enjoy these photographs as much as we enjoyed every second creating them.”
To share the news, Meisel joined Instagram to promote the release with Evangelista. (The only account he follows so far? Evangelista of course.) In a shared post, the pair wrote, “We have been making images together since we first met in 1987. The book will be available around the world on September 13th by @phaidonpress. With our love and thanks, Linda and Steven.”
The post drew lovely comments from a wide array of fashion luminaries. Helena Christensen wrote, “This will be a treat ❤️.” Cindy Crawford expressed her excitement writing, “AMAZING!!! Can’t wait.” Kristen McMenamy commented, “Oh My Lord. GEEEEENIUS!!!!!!!!!! A diary of my two great friends. I can’t wait to see all the memories. Beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.” Other fellow supermodels like Amber Valletta, Carolyn Murphy, Lily Aldridge, Raquel Zimmermann, Carla Bruni and Cindy Bruna also filled the comments section.
Designers also showed some love, including former Moschino creative director Jeremy Scott, Zac Posen, Riccardo Tisci and Kim Jones. There was also a shout out from Lindsay Lohan.
The tome follows Meisel’s recent retrospective that took place in November 2022. Meisel’s work was honored in the exhibition, Steven Meisel 1993 A Year in Photographs, at the Elsa Urquijo in Spain for the MOP Foundation – a chair of the Inditex Marta Ortega Pérez’s program to bring state-of-the-art exhibition to the Spanish city of A Coruña.
As one of the most recognizable supermodels, Evangelista has served as a muse and friend to Meisel for over 35 years. Norwich writes in the intro, “Theirs is one the most — if not the most — enviable friendships and creative collaborations that I know.”
