fendace

It’s not often that two legendary fashion houses come together to collaborate on a single collection, so when they do, it naturally makes headlines. That was the case when Versace’s Donatella Versace and Fendi’s artistic directors Silvia Venturini-Fendi and Kim Jones debuted, “Fendace” on the Milan Fashion Week runway in September. The collection represented the power of collaboration between two storied Italian fashion houses. And after much anticipation, the collection will finally be available to shop on May 12.

Kim Jones and Silvia Venturini Fendi brought their perspective to Versace, while Donatella brought hers to Fendi in the two lines: Fendi by Versace, designed by Donatella Versace, and Versace by Fendi, designed by Kim Jones.

“It’s a swap rather than a collaboration, and, most of all, it is done out of friendship,” Jones said in a press release. “It is the beauty of togetherness after time apart and a celebration of women who have inspired me so much.”

According to the release, the lines brings together Versace’s “more is more” dressing with Fendi’s “considered approach to accessorizing and craftsmanship.” The two brands merge on iconic accessories, like the Fendace Peekaboo and Baguette bags, which combines iconic Fendi silhouettes with Versace design aspects, while the Fendace La Medusa handbag features Fendi’s “FF” logo on Versace’s Medusa bag design.

To announce the collection’s arrival, Fendi and Versace released the Fendace campaign shot by iconic photographer Steven Meisel and renowned filmmaker Alec Maxwell. The campaign invites fans to the “Fendace” nightclub, where models dressed in their shimmery Fendace looks try to make their way past the bouncers (Naomi Campbell and Kristen McMenamy) to enter the fabulous and fun fête.

“The campaign captures the same sense of friendship and energy we had when we were designing the collection,” said Donatella in the release. “Kim is a visionary designer and innovator. To me, Fendace will always mean love.”

The Fendace collection launches on May 12, accompanied by a series of pop-ups which will be the only place to shop the complete collection. The Versace by Fendi line will be offered at Fendi.com and boutiques, and Fendi by Versace styles will be available at versace.com and boutiques.
