Helena Christensen has walked countless runways and starred in too many campaigns to count. She’s been behind the camera as a photographer and helms her own brand, Staerk and Christensen. It would seem that she has a bevy of tips and tricks to pass down to her son, 22-year-old Mingus Lucien Reedus, but when they’re together on set, she says they just speak their “secret language.”

“It’s always great hanging out with my son,” Christensen, 53, tells GRAZIA USA exclusively. “We have a lot of fun together sharing little jokes between us throughout the day. It’s good to have a secret language on set, that way you can really let the dark humor flow and my son is a master that.”

Christensen has modeled with Mingus (whom she shares with her ex, The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus) for Rag & Bone and Victoria’s Secret among others, but they teamed up most recently to star in Marcell Von Berlin‘s latest campaign.

While on set, Christensen says neither of them shared advice to one another, in fact, Christensen says she hasn’t gotten any from Mingus and she has never lent any to her son either. “We have a very easy approach to it. You go do the job as fast as you can and have fun with it,” she says.

The supermodel explains that for Mingus, modeling isn’t his full-time passion. “He is grateful for being part of it on occasion but spends all his time making music and studying film.”

They were styled in looks from the 22/23 line, which is filled with feathery-trimmed and embellished suits, silky pajamas, and printed pieces. For Christensen, her favorite look was the black silk pajamas suit because “it is an outfit you can wear both during the day but it’s also very elegant for evening.”

She says putting on Pustul’s designs makes her “feel happy and powerful at the same time.” Adding, “His collection is a very stylish, edgy and colorful interpretation of the formal suit look. I am obsessed with colors and love how he uses them boldly in his collection.”

Being an entrepreneur, whose brand encompasses both home decor and fashion, Christensen says being in nature is a constant source of inspiration for her. “Nature, always nature, from beginning to end,” she shares. “Every year I am so blown away by how beautiful nature transforms this time of year. Everything I do in life somehow is inspired by nature, my entire creative side springs from that.”

Being in nature is something she credits as one of the best pieces of advice she’s received over the years.

“I have received a lot of advice throughout my life and I think to this day the ones I have gotten the most benefits from, and in a way also I have felt within myself from the beginning. are to have an honest, pure relationship with yourself, and to immerse yourself in nature as much as possible. And then there are the boring but very essential ones — to be active, eat healthy, and drink a lot of water.”
