Tube Top Trend
Alaïa, Blumarine, and Alexander McQueen Fall-WInter 2022 shows

At the Fall-Winter 2022 shows, labels from Alexander McQueen, Blumarine, Alexandre Vauthier, and Alaïa paraded their new collections down the runway with models in body-hugging tube tops — ushering in a new era of the tubular style.

The tube tops first came to fame in the late ’90s and early 2000s thanks to the likes of Victoria Beckham during her Posh Spice days, Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker who made a case for the trend on the red carpet, and how could we ever forget Kim Kardashian’s strapless bandage dress era? The style also was seen on runways, displayed in collections from Calvin Klein to Versace.

As the tubular style makes its way back to the catwalk, a new generation of fashion mavens are pulling off the look IRL. From Emily Ratajkowski to our queen of Y2K trends, Bella Hadid, street style stars are taking the trend for a spin. Whether in top or dress form, tube tops are getting a modern-day revamp in unconventional materials like leather seen in Alexander McQueen or embellished like in Blumarine. Just last week, Hadid sported a risqué sheer tube top exposing her bare midriff for all to see, a perfect match for the baggy trousers she paired it with.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, Ratajkowski hit the city with her son Sylvester Apollo Bear in a light green tube top dress. The model looked effortlessly cool (of course) pairing the look with casual sneakers and oval-shaped sunnies.

The resurgence of the tube top is a welcome one. It’s easy, versatile for day to night, and given the current heatwave (err… global warming), it’s airy and light without sacrificing style.
