Charting their 16 years as the elite designing duo behind the whimsical luxury label Rodarte, Kate and Laura Mulleavy hosted an exclusive New York Fashion Week celebration on Friday to unveil a new immersive experience.
The exhibition, called The Art of Rodarte, is located at Spring Studios in partnership with Afterpay and IMG, and is a no-phones-allowed display of pieces from Rodarte’s runway archives. There are original sketches of their most recognizable works, costume designs from their contributions to films like Academy Award-nominated Black Swan and Sing 2, and an interactive look book displaying the brand’s artistic heritage. The experience is open to fashion week attendees until Tuesday, February 15.
Additionally, Rodarte created an exclusive collection, made in collaboration with Afterpay, that’s on sale through the shopping service. A spokesperson for Afterpay said of the collaboration, “Our partnership with Rodarte fits perfectly into the core focus in offering accessibility to all. This exciting program will give consumers a never-before-seen look into Spring Studios and the Rodarte brand.”
With the end goal to reinvent the wheel in a post-COVID fashion industry, Rodarte and Afterpay hope to unlock exclusive access and democratize the luxury experience. In regard to the homage to Rodarte, Afterpay noted, “With a journey through the brand’s 16-year history, consumers everywhere will be able to learn about Kate and Laura’s most iconic looks, view previous runway shows, and interact with look books from NYFWs past. Further, consumers will get a chance to experience the brand even more by purchasing a limited-edition merchandise on site, exclusively through Afterpay.”
