Minimalist beauty will always have its place at various fashion weeks around the world, but at the Rodarte SS22 show earlier today in New York City, the brief was extraterrestrial landscapes, moons and a rising sun.

Makeup artist James Kaliardos for Nars translated the look quite literally, painting alien-like shapes across a handful of the model’s faces. From a bright yellow sunrise to acid-trip eye shadow, Kaliardos told press (as per The Zoe Report) that the inspiration was he inspiration was “aliens, American landscapes, Georgia O’Keeffe, and mushrooms.”

The remaining looks were pared back and simple: fresh skin, groomed brows and the softest pink flush. Kaliardos used the just-launched Nars Soft Matte Complete Foundation, and Air Matte Blush on the day, for a soft-focused, matte skin finish that lent itself well to the avant garde eye.

Odile Gilbert was on hair, working with individual style and texture to create a range of unique and personalized styles.

It was bold and beautiful — and a fitting tribute to the return of New York Fashion Week.
