After a two-year postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sarah Jessica Parker and husband, Matthew Broderick are making their way back to Broadway to star alongside one another in the revival of Neil Simon’s 1968 comedy Plaza Suite. And to celebrate opening night, Parker gave full glitz and glamour, just like we knew she would.

Dressed to the nines in an appropriately themed ’60s-inspired ensemble, Parker tapped designer Prabal Gurung to create her look for the big night, featuring a pink A-line gown with a sheer crystal-adorned overlay. The designer took to Instagram to express his gratitude and appreciation for the Sex and the City star writing, “To me, nobody epitomizes New York like Sarah Jessica, in every possible way, so it was a great honor.”

He continued, “It always makes me very emotional because it reminds me how fortunate I am. I know that our industry can be arduous and challenging at times, but at moments like this, I’m so grateful that our work can be a source of joy and optimism for someone. I can’t tell you how blessed I feel to be able to create something beautiful for a dear friend of mine.”

In another post, Gurung captioned an image of Parker posing in the cloaked bubblegum pink gown writing, “A New York icon in a New York Pink. Grateful for this moment, for you and for our friendship.”

Before heading off to the carpet, Parker shared a similar photo posing with her back to the camera on Instagram writing, “Just wait until you see the front. No words right now. I’m sure they’ll come later. See you in Suite 719.”

Set in the Plaza Hotel amid the 1960s, Plaza Suite spans three acts, with each telling the tale of a different couple who have stayed in the same suite at different times.

Always one to plan her look with an extra layer of thought, the style icon appeared to have channeled the essence of the 1960s for opening night, committing to the play’s time period. With her gown closely resembling that of Dynasty actress Diahann Carroll’s 1969 Academy Awards gown, and her Serge Normant-styled classic chignon bun epitomizing the style of ‘60s, the And Just Like That actress appeared on point with her sartorial references.
