We’re going to go ahead and call it. The current reigning queen of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Symone — AKA the Ebony Enchantress — is a Fashion Person ™ to watch. On the show she served highly conceptual looks left and right, making her presence known as a fashion enthusiast. Even Rihanna slid in her Instagram DMs and told her “You just get it” — and that’s high praise coming from Bad Gal Ri Ri! Symone is constantly decked in designer, paying homage to iconic fashion as well as Black cultural moments both on and off the show.
Below we dive into a mini-retrospective of sorts with a few of the emerging fashion icon’s memorable looks.
Jean Paul Gaultier
For her first major red carpet post her crowning, Symone rocked this Jean Paul Gaultier, lapeled, plunged neck jumpsuit to last weekend’s MTV Movie & TV Awards. It’s giving us Grace Jones.
And here is the way the look was shown on the runway. See it is giving Grace Jones vibes.
She also wore Gaultier for the season 13 premiere press day, channeling the Janet Jackson’s iconic ‘Velvet Rope’ era with her hair.
Below, as the look was worn by model Lais Ribeiro on the runway:
Mugler
Cue Rihanna’s “Phresh Out the Runway:” Symone wore this Mugler look (fresh off the runway, heh) to party in Vegas with Lizzo. We stan a stunt.
And as seen on supermodel Alek Wek for the Spring/Summer 2021 film:
Homage to Gisele Bündchen’s polaroid dress:
Symone pumped into the season 13 workroom of RuPaul’s Drag Race, wearing this Polaroid dress of images of herself in homage to fashion model Gisele Bündchen —starting the competition off with a bang!
Christopher John Rogers
The Ebony Enchantress rocked this Christopher John Rogers dress as part of the brand’s #CJRatHome! campaign highlighting his muses in designs from the most recent collection.
As seen for the brand’s Spring/Summer 2021 collection editorial:
MOSCHINO
Now this is what it means to ‘secure the bag!’ The Drag Race winner wore this pink Moschino look to grace the red carpet at the finale. It’s safe to say the bag dress helped her secure the crown and her $100,000 cash prize.
As seen on model Stella Maxwell for the Fall/winter 2021′ collection:
Finale look inspired by a JOHN Galliano-era Dior Gown:
This is a look deserving of a winner and won she did. The gown takes inspiration from a 2006 Dior collection, meaning it was designed by John Galliano, with its hybrid parts armor and organza gown. Complete with locs in the style of Medusa’s mane, this look is pure gold.
Model Eugenia Volodina wears a Dior half body armor gown:
Referencing Rihanna’s Fenty x Puma, Paris Collection:
The category of this episode’s runway was trains — A long durag train moment. The innovation!
As inspired by this look from Rihanna’s Fenty x Puma Spring/Summer 2017 collection (worn by model Taylor Hill):
We can’t wait to see how Symone’s fashion trajectory continues to grow. We’re looking forward to campaigns, glossy editorials, her storming the runway at fashion weeks all over the world, and perhaps even a cameo at Met Gala.
