If you’ve had Miley Cyrus’ new album on repeat — so has Selena Gomez! The Rare Beauty founder posted two makeup-free selfies to Instagram on Monday, tagging Cyrus and captioning her post, “Violet chemistry,” citing a track from the fellow Disney alum’s brand-new eighth studio album Endless Summer Vacation, which dropped on Friday.
Fans got a kick out of the reference, commenting “MILEY COLLAB WHEN????,” “the miley reference,” and “I love the support between these two Disney queens.” Cyrus showed Gomez some love as well, dropping a red heart emoji in the comments section.
As the most-followed woman on Instagram, Gomez shared two bare-faced snapshots showing off a fresh complexion. Her long brown wavy hair cascaded over one shoulder and she was wearing a black zip-up, scoop-neck tank top.
The two stars go way back to their Disney heyday when Gomez starred on the channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place and Cyrus in Hannah Montana. Last May, the Only Murders in the Building actress made her Saturday Night Live hosting debut and her opening monologue included an impression of her longtime friend.
Gomez said that she asked “one of her oldest friends, Miley Cyrus” for advice. Selena then did her very best impersonation mimicking Cyrus’ raspy Tennessee accent and said Cyrus told her to “just be yourself and have fun.”
Gomez continued, “I was like, ‘Miley is that just an excuse for me to do an impression of you on the show?’ and she was like, ‘Hell yeah, I’m Miley Cyrus.'”
After Gomez’s hosting gig, Cyrus kept the laughs coming and posted a picture of herself from bed wearing a white tank top that read, “Hell yeah, I’m Miley Cyrus” and captioned the post with the same phrase, tagging @selenagomez @nbcsnl.
Back in 2020, the duo reconnected on Cyrus’ Instagram show Bright Minded amid the pandemic to chat about coping mechanisms in quarantine and mental health awareness. The pair shared that they DM’d one another, and Gomez sends Cyrus a simple butterfly emoji to show she’s thinking of her.
