Now I know what you’re thinking, why are we already predicting trends when New Year‘s hasn’t even happened yet? Well, hear us out — In the past few weeks, we’ve already been seeing inklings of this buzzcut trend hit social media, with Demi Lovato debuting a new buzz and after that, Saweetie posted pictures posing with a shaved head.

In fact, this year started off with a hint, when Iris Law showed off her bleach-blonde buzz in the beginnings of 2021.

While we’ve talked in the past about short haircuts taking the reigns in 2021 for being manageable and accesible in a time where physical and financial circumstances might inhibit regular access to a hair salon or stylist. But why don’t we take it a step further with a shaved head. If short bobs and pixies are manageable at home, then shaved heads are just plain easy, with the only tool needed being a good buzzer, a mirror and maybe a loved one to check if you’ve missed any spots in the back.

For some, this haircut makes sense due to health reasons. Jada Pinkett Smith has been open about her journey with alopecia and hair loss in the past few years, stating on a 2018 episode of Red Table Talk, stating ““It was terrifying when it first started. I was in the shower one day and had just handfuls of hair in my hands and I was just like, ‘Oh my god, am I going bald?”

Out of support, Smith’s daughter, Willow Smith, shaved her head with her mom in July of this year, with Jada stating “Willow made me do it because it was time to let go.”

But the stars that don this haircut have been doing it for a while, and every time we see a new rendition, it’s always a statement. Whether that reason be artistic, political, personal or all of the above, we love to see stars rock this bold and striking look.
