As a supermodel, Bella Hadid can pull off high fashion garb easier than most. Whether she’s reviving long-forgotten style trends (fleeces, leather vests, tie dye) or tackling tricky beauty looks (cutting her own bangs, experimenting with makeup), Hadid has proven that she can wear almost anything and we’ll inevitably want to follow suit. Her recent Instagram post – which sees Hadid rock a sleek top-knot encased in what appears to be a ball of yarn in her hair – is a classic example.

Is it a little odd? Yes. Is it practical? Probably not. Do we kinda want to try it for ourselves? Absolutely. And sure, some of Hadid’s more directional looks may not work quite as well on the rest of us, but there’s always a watered-down way to wear them – for those of us less inclined to wear woollen hair to the grocery store.

So let’s take a closer look at Hadid’s yarn hair, shall we?

Hair accessories have once again become fashionable fare in recent seasons, but we’re not just talking clips and headbands. Celebrities have been employing rope and chains to add a little decorative flair to their red carpet looks for some time now – Kristen Stewart once wound a gold chain through her messy low bun, while Jennifer Lawrence had an embellished cord braided into her updo – but Hadid is selling us on the merits of adding yarn to an otherwise simple hairstyle.

Take the look down several notches by threading a strand of material – cream-colored yarn à la Hadid, or a strip of leather for a Kardashian take – into the low-key hairstyle of your choice. For a high bun like Hadid’s, try wrapping the material over the top of the knot, or even just around the elastic. You could also try weaving it into a loose braid, or around the base of a ponytail.

Just don’t forget to take it out pre-shower! We don’t need to describe the unfortunate feeling of getting wool wet.
