A surprise appearance on the runway is always a treat, and viewers were in for one at Miu Miu, where singer-songwriter FKA Twigs joined runway regulars Bella Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski modeling in the luxury label’s Spring/Summer 2023 presentation.

The Caprisongs artist made her way down the runway sporting a white collared shirt under a navy blue crewneck knit sweater, teamed with an ultra-short nylon miniskirt featuring two oversized pockets.

After the brand’s meteoric success with its coveted ballet flats, Miu Miu is introducing another unexpected statement shoe into the mix — an open-toed thong sandal fused with a knee-high heeled boot. Models, including Twigs, all walked in the the shoe which came in black and brown to lime green, bright orange, and neon pink in varying heights.

A slew of fashion It girls sat in the front row, including Adwoa Aboah, Keke Palmer, King Richard actress and Miu Miu brand ambassador Demi Singleton, Emily in Paris star Camille Razat, singer Chlöe Bailey, Alexa Chung and more.

Miuccia Prada‘s fashion house has been steering fashion trends for years and recently went viral with its Miu Miu micro mini skirt from the Spring/Summer 2022 collection. This season, Ms. Prada is sticking with the ultra-low waist and loading up on distressed leather and nylon jackets, vests, and skirts (both mini and midi) with massive cargo pockets that could double as their own fanny packs. A practical choice, the designer said in a statement, “I wanted to explore the purpose of fashion, its reason. Its usefulness in society and in culture today. Fashion can have a meaning and a reason beyond utility – to decorate, to attract, is a meaning. But it is important that fashion functions – I am not anti-luxury but I am anti-ostentation.”

The venue was transformed into a futuristic submarine, courtesy of Miu Miu’s collaboration with artist Shuang Li, while music by Eli Osheyack serenaded the audience. “Always I want to expand Miu Miu, to open up, through our casting, through collaboration with artists,” said Prada. “That is another translation, the notion of translating different ideas into the world of fashion, of engaging with different creative spheres, enriching each other. It mirrors the exchanges and communications of life.”
