May 10, 2021: Today is Miuccia Prada’s 73rd birthday! The leading Italian fashion designer has impeccably dressed countless women for several decades, and she’s best known as the Italian luxury fashion house’s head designer. She’s the youngest granddaughter of Mario Prada, who founded the label in 1913. Miuccia stepped in to revive the brand in the 70s, ultimately transforming it into the fashion powerhouse it’s recognized as today.

Before Miuccia Prada became, well, Miuccia Prada, she was Maria Bianchi. Long before starting her career in fashion, she diligently studied at the University of Milan and finished triumphantly with a Ph.D. in political science in 1973. It wasn’t until 1985 that the creative made her impressive debut in the fashion world with the introduction of the black nylon handbags as backpacks that quickly earned the attention of the fashion world.

Today, the designer is at the helm of billon dollar fashion house Prada and the founder of its subsidiary Miu Miu, established in 1993. Ahead, GRAZIA celebrates the iconic fashion revolutionary by looking back at her most iconic moments with the brand through the years.
