Even though season 2 of Euphoria premiered a few weeks ago, there’s already tons of drama! For one, Nate (Jacob Elordi) seems to be into Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) after they hooked up at a New Year’s Eve party. There’s just one major problem: she is besties with Maddy (Alexa Demie), who used to date the quintessential bad boy in season 1.

During the latest episode, Nate is in the hospital, as he was almost beat to death by Fezco (Angus Cloud) and is now daydreaming about what his life would be like with Cassie, as she is much different than his ex, who he had a toxic relationship with.

After Nate is released, he takes Cassie out for a drive and tells her they can’t fool around anymore since Maddy would kill the both of them. However, they can’t resist each other and have a romp at a construction site.

However, it seems like Maddy is still longing for Nate, as she called him when he was in the car with Cassie. So, what exactly is going on with these two?

According to Elordi, he believes that there’s still something there between Nate and Maddy.

“I think we hold love in our DNA, and in our bones, and I don’t think it ever really goes away. You’ll always have a pang when you see that somebody,” he shared. “So that was definitely something that I was trying to play. It’s also very hard to let someone go fully, to say ‘Goodbye forever. I will never see you again or speak to you.’ Especially for someone like Nate who, on top of that, is so controlling, and does have something that he needs, and has no idea if he loves who he loves. I think that has so much to do with it.”

As for why Nate was dozing off, thinking about Cassie — he dreamt that the two were having a baby together and lived in a nice house — the handsome hunk believes he had this “very primal ‘American Dream’ idea of him having a very straight down the line, white picket fence, beautiful blonde life.”

“This idea of love and family that he doesn’t have. This conventional storybook idea for him. And I think he’s doing that thing, that’s what you’re saying, trying to convince himself like ‘This is right in front of me. This is a good girl. She loves me. I have full control over her. This must be what love is,'” he explained. “Because that’s his thing. The whole time I think he has no f**king idea what love is. He’s not loved by his mom. He’s not loved by his dad. He’s not loved by his peers. He has no concept of what real love is. So he’s just trying the best he can to understand it.”

With Nate, you just never know what is going on. Nonetheless, we’re excited to see what unfolds next!
