It’s been two years since we were blessed with coming-of-age drama Euphoria, and while we’ve known a season two was in the works, we’ve received very little solid information around when that season would actually land.

Now, in fantastic news for 2022, we have an air date. Expect to catch up with Rue, Jules and the gang next January, with the first episode of Euphoria landing on Binge in Australia on January 10. The news also came with a wild new trailer that hints at a tumultuous season.

Forgotten where we left off in season one? We ended things with Rue standing Jules up at the train station after promising to run away with her. Rue had relapsed into drug addiction, and in the special two-episode drop we got this year, we saw Rue considering the life impact of this relapse, while Jules saw a psychologist.

Meanwhile, Nate and Maddy finally split up and Cassie had an abortion. Basically, a lot went down and there is plenty for the characters to work through and process in season two, which Zendaya (who won an Emmy this year for her incredible performance in the series) says is going to be pretty dark and, at times, not exactly a comfortable watch.

“When you’re younger, everything feels so permanent. But as you get older, you begin to realise nothing is and everyone you love could drift away,” Rue says in the trailer, as scenes of her dancing to “Call Me Irresponsible” give way to a montage of partying, violence and drugs – it’s clear that season two will not be a ray of sunshine.

“I think this season’s not going to be easy, though. It’s not going to be a fun watch, I don’t think. Sometimes,” Zendaya told Teen Vogue earlier this year, adding that it’s been “difficult” and “challenging” to film due to the content.

Euphoria made a name for itself thanks to this no-holds-barred take on teenage existence, with the series being both praised and criticised for its rampant and stylised drug use and controversial character arcs.

Will Rue and Jules patch things up? We hope so – but we’ll have to wait until January 10th to find out.
