Over the past few seasons, we’ve seen a number of hair accessory trends re-emerge from bygone eras (see: barrettes, acrylic snap slides, scrunchies, claw clips). As a lover of 90s trends, Hailey Bieber has well and truly worn them all, but now she’s lent her brand of cool to yet another throwback hair accoutrement – the humble bobby pin.

The model recently donned a set of embellished bobby pins for a makeup tutorial. With her long locks pulled back in a sleek, simple low bun (a Mrs Bieber signature hairstyle), the Bare Minerals ambassador had pushed in two bobby pins on either side of her part to keep errant strands out of her face.

For such an easy, accessible styling trick, it really added an impressive amount of playful polish to the overall look, which the model wore with layers of gold jewellery and an oversized Magda Butrym blazer in classic houndstooth.

It’s a really easy way to add interest to an otherwise unremarkable hairstyle – which is handy considering most of us have been less-than-adventurous since global events confined us to our abodes last year.

And sure, Bieber’s crystal-adorned bobby pins aren’t the same chipped ones we picked up for $1.50 at the pharmacy back in high school, but the styling is just as accessible if you’re not keen to spend big on a few slides.

Simply brush your hair back and secure into a low bun with the ends of your hair left out to emulate Bieber’s relaxed look. Or leave your hair out and loose, and just slide in your bobby pins for an even easier option.
