It’s no secret there’s intense tension between Sex and the City co-stars Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker. Their long-lasting feud has been an ongoing conversation in the media, and ahead of the season 2 premiere of And Just Like Thatfellow co-star Kristen Davis is sharing her thoughts.

“I do understand fans’ feelings — that they’re upset … I wish I could fix it, but I can’t, it’s not in my power,” Davis told the Telegraph in a new interview. Cattrall did not reprise her iconic character Samantha Jones in the first season of the spin-off, And Just Like That.

However, last month it was announced that she would finally make a brief appearance in the second season. According to insiders, Cattrall filmed her “cliffhanger” scene on March 22 in New York City, avoiding any contact with Parker or And Just Like That showrunner Michael Patrick King.

Despite her firsthand knowledge of the tension between Parker and Cattrall, Davis said, “You have to respect people’s wishes. I’m not gonna waste energy on it. I can’t change anybody.”

Davis has portrayed Charlotte York Goldenblatt alongside Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes, Parker and Carrie Bradshaw, and Cattrall as Samantha since Sex and the City premiered in 1998. Cattrall also starred in two feature-length films continuing the Sex and the City storyline before declining to appear in a third.

Cattrall told Variety that she didn’t feel the script was doing her character justice. Apparently the plot was set to revolve around Samantha receiving unsolicited nude photos from Miranda’s 14-year-old son, Brady Hobbs. “It’s heartbreaking,” she expressed.

Cattrall told the publication that after filming the sequel film, “Everything in me went, ‘I’m done,’” she said. “I made my feelings clear after the possible third movie, so I found out about [And Just Like That] like everyone else did — on social media.”

At the time, Cattrall made a statement that she and her co-stars had “never been friends.” She told Piers Morgan in 2017, “We’ve been colleagues and in some ways it’s a very healthy place to be because then you have a clear line between your professional life and relationship and your personal.” She also accused Parker of hostile on-set behavior throughout the initial series run.

The tension only grew when Parker reached out to Cattrall over social media after the 2018 death of her brother. “I don’t need your love and support at this tragic time @sarahjessicaparker,” Cattrall responded. “Let me make this VERY clear. (If I haven’t already) You are not my family. You are not my friend. So I’m writing to tell you one last time to stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.”

Stopping by Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live in Februrary 2022, Parker spilled the AJLTea on the first season. “Samantha is not gone,” Parker said. “The actress that played the role is no longer playing that role, but people aren’t absent from your life when you don’t want them to be.”

Season 2 of And Just Like That will premiere on Max on June 22.
