Jennifer Lopez turned heads Sunday evening at the MTV Movie & TV Awards before accepting the night’s Generation Award. Stepping out in style, Lopez walked the red carpet in a sexy black look, featuring a plunging leather zip-up vest, and a curve-hugging skirt, featuring cutouts at the hip from the cutout king himself, Mônot founder and creative director Eli Mizrahi.

Styled by Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn, Lopez accessorized her ensemble with Candy Ice Sugar Cube drop earrings, a shimmering diamond tennis necklace and bracelet, and of course, her whopping engagement ring. Topping off her bombshell look, the JLo Beauty founder effortlessly worked her honey-toned beach-blown waves in the wind.

Lopez was awarded the Generation Award for her impressive body of work in film and television, and gave an emotional acceptance speech on stage. The performer thanked her 14-year-old twins Emme and Max, her manager Benny Medina, fiancé Ben Affleck, her costars, and fans, as well as the naysayers she’s encountered throughout her career. “I have a different kind of list of thank you’s tonight,” Lopez told the audience.

“I want to thank all the people who gave me this life,” said Lopez. “I want to thank the people who gave me joy and the ones that broke my heart; the ones who were true, and the ones who lied to me. I want to thank true love, and I want to thank the way that I lied to myself, because that’s how I knew that I had to grow. I want to thank disappointment and failure for teaching me to be strong, and my children for teaching me to love,” the Marry Me actress proclaimed, as she teared up.

“I want to thank all the people who told me to my face, or when I wasn’t in the room, that I couldn’t do this. I really don’t think I could have done it without you. And I know I couldn’t have done it without the fans who saw the movies.”

Lopez closed out her heartfelt declaration saying, “It’s an honor to be able to connect with audiences — to connect with you guys. And because of all of you, I will continue to do justice to that honor as long as I am around. I love you. Ben, and everybody at home, wait for me to have dinner! I’ll be home by 7:00.”

The latest project on the multi-hyphenate’s plate is releasing her new documentary, Halftime, on Netflix (out June 14) which will chronicle the prep behind her 2020 Super Bowl halftime performance with Shakira. It also promises to show more private moments in her life. According to Netflix, fans will see her “journey as a mom, Latinx creative and woman on the other side of 50.”
