While watching Netflix’s hit show Emily in Paris, there was one big question on viewers minds — how old is Emily Cooper (Lily Collins)?!
The lead character’s age made headlines when the show first premiered in October 2020, and even the actress wasn’t let in on the answer.
“I don’t believe we’ve ever given her a specific ‘number’ for her age, but I believe that she’s pretty fresh out of college. Maybe this is her first year after graduation. I want to say she’s like, 22-ish,” Collins told Vogue in 2020. “She’s had enough experience at her company in Chicago to have earned the respect of her boss. She’s a smart cookie and really innovative – and this is not her first rodeo doing what she does.”
She continued, “She’s gone to school for this, and she’s completed internships. However, she’s not the person who travelled during college. She was really, really focused on her jobs in the Midwest, and I don’t think she’s been abroad. Basically, she’s always kind of been a big fish in a small pond – and then suddenly in Paris she’s a fish out of water. If she had gone to a different company in Chicago, she would have been taken seriously – but in Paris, she’s not prepared for the cultural shift that she experiences at Savoir. Her only real experience of Europe is through movies and TV.”
However, fans were a little too impressed with Emily’s career, as she is a marketing connoisseur and has a master’s degree. As a result, they believed she had to be older than 22. (Lucas Bravo, who plays chef Gabriel, thought Emily was probably around 24 years old.)
During season 2 of the series, which dropped in December 2021, viewers finally got the answer they’ve been looking for — Emily is 29 years old.
The clue was easy to miss, though! In episode 3, Emily and her pals celebrated her birthday, and while the U.S. native was looking at her social media, there’s one comment that reads, “29 years Jeune [young]!”
Well, there you have it, folks! One mystery solved. Now, we just need to know when the series will be renewed for season 3.
