Guests at the Met Gala have always been known for bringing spectacular fashion to the Metropolitan Museum of Art on the first Monday of May.

The exclusive guest list gathers Hollywood’s brightest stars with fashion’s most legendary figures to celebrate the latest Costume Institute exhibit and raise museum funds, as they dress to the nines in theme-appropriate looks or in rulebook-defying ensembles. But this year, A-listers switched things up by showing off some drastic hair transformations.

Jessica Chastain traded in her iconic red strands for a platinum blonde ‘do. Florence Pugh opted for a Demi Moore-esque buzzcut for a shocking beauty statement. And there were so many more, GRAZIA USA rounded up the most dramatic hair transformations to hit the 2023 Met Gala red carpet.

Jessica Chastain

The iconic red-head swapped out her signature fire-engine strands (often worn in Old Hollywood curls) for sleek, straightened platinum tresses. Embodying Lagerfeld in a black strapless Gucci gown and black sunglasses, Chastain mimicked the designer’s trademark silver hair.

Halle Bailey

Halle Bailey switched up her long mermaid locks for a shortened curly bob haircut to go with her incandescent Gucci halter gown, featuring shimmering sequins and ivory lace appliqués.

Florence Pugh

Less than a week ago, Pugh sported freshly-chopped blunt blonde bangs at the Tiffany & Co. party. Now, on the steps of the 2023 Met Gala, Pugh surprised everyone by debuting a fresh buzz cut, topped off with a towering feathered headdress from Valentino.

Cara Delevingne

Like Chastain, Cara Delevingne‘s 2023 Met Gala ensemble was influenced by Lagerfeld himself. The model adorned a white shirtdress from the designer’s eponymous label and sported a fresh, icy silver shag haircut.

Lea Michelle

After wearing her brunette strands in long waves with a middle-part for the TIME100 gala less than a week ago, Lea Michele sported a blunt bowl bob with the ends flipped inwards and bangs at the 2023 Met Gala.

Lily James

Though Lily James has been sporting brunette tresses for some time now, the actress wore an even darker hue to the 2023 Met Gala. Throwing her hair up into a bun, the Pam + Tommy actress also revealed a new set of choppy mini bangs.

Amber Valletta

To match the whimsical aesthetic, Valletta sported a choppy blonde pixie cut with a little bit of a mullet shape. She accessorized with feathers accentuating her new haircut.
