Have you decided to kick-start healthy eating before diving into the much-dreaded year-end feasts? You might not be sure how to go about it. With some tips from two nutritionists interviewed by Madame Figaro, you will see it can be quite easy to eat a balanced and healthy diet, as long as you have some key healthy foods in your cupboards. Among them is brown rice! Dietitian-nutritionist Florence Foucaut emphasizes that this type of rice is far more nutritious than white rice. “Whole grains provide more fiber, vitamins, and minerals than refined ones, so you should always have them in your pantry,” says the expert. You should also have frozen vegetables in your freezer!

These are the foods you absolutely must have

Yes, as you may know, non-processed frozen products have high nutritional value. For Raphaël Gruman, a nutritionist specializing in micronutrition, these are perfect for healthy eating, as opposed to fresh fruits and vegetables. “These transit under poor conditions and remain on the stalls and then in our fridge for several days, losing their vitamins. With frozen food, we do not have this vitamin loss, as they are harvested, cut, and frozen very quickly,” explains the professional.

Finally, you can stock up your pantry with some canned goods. “One should consider canned sardines or mackerel for their provision of essential fatty acids, which help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disorders and hypertension. Plus, the sardine bones contain calcium,” points out Foucaut. The same goes for lentils, which provide “energy, amino acids, and vegetable proteins that make them a good alternative to meat.” Following these tips, you can whip up delicious meals that you will enjoy while eating healthily, all in just a few minutes in your kitchen.
