Move over sweatpants and biker shorts; here comes pelvic cutout. The risqué trend that focuses on exposing the hip bone region is the latest and hottest trend that celebrities can’t seem to stop wearing. Bella Hadid and Kim Kardashian are already endorsing the trend, and now Dua Lipa is joining in on the fun.
We’ve been taking note of the 25-year-old “Physical” singer as of recent. Like c’mon, we’re still not over her coral-colored sheer bodysuit look she wore last month (which also included cutouts, we might add.) Lipa took to Instagram, posting the casual yet statement-making look to her 69.3M followers. She captioned the post “today was the best day” with two white hearts.
Pelvic cutouts are usually seen on skirts, shorts, and in Lipa’s case, a pair of white pants. The sexy cutouts accentuated Lipa’s oft-hidden area around her pelvis, showing off a subtle tan line. The series of photos also features beau Anwar Hadid snuggled around an oh-so-happy Lipa grinning. Katy Perry joking chimed in on the fun in the comments saying, “babes there’s a hole in your pants.”
Her latest look is topping the charts—quite literally; searches for “pelvic” and “hip” cutouts spiked on global fashion shopping platform Lyst, increasing by 23% and 19%—a big 180 from the loungewear trends that topped the Lyst index this same time last year. It’s safe to say we’re ready for outside and showing off our bodies after a year off indoors.
The trend started showing up in designer spring-summer collections from Versace and Dion Lee to emerging brands like Aya Muse and Charlotte Knowles. We only expect more and more A-listers to add the trend to their wardrobe as we round out the last few months of summer.
