After almost four years together, Elle Fanning and The Handmaid’s Tale actor Max Minghella have gone their separate ways.

In a new interview with Harper’s BAZAAR U.K, The Great actress confirmed her relationship status as single, but she remains, “a hopeless romantic.” She said, “I believe in love at first sight. Call me crazy, but I believe in those things. I feel that’s my destiny.”

Fanning, 24 and Minghella, 37 were first linked in 2018, when they met on set of the film Teen Spirit, which was written and directed by Minghella. Fanning played the lead role of Violet, a Polish teenager who has dreams of becoming a pop star at any cost. The pair sparked romance rumors that year when they spotted on a walk in London, laughing and embracing.

The two were last seen with one another on the red carpet in December at the Los Angeles premiere of Babylon, where Minghella stars alongside Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt. Despite mostly keeping their relationship out of the spotlight, the former couple attended the 2019 Met Gala together.

In the interview, Fanning added that she hopes to have children one day, referencing how portraying a pregnant woman in her role as Russian Empress Catherine the Great’s in the Hulu hit comedy The Great spurred an interest in her.

“I was obsessed with it. I had a bespoke bump with boobs molded onto me that went all the way up to my neck,” Fanning explained. “The costume team told me that this is pretty accurately what my body will look like when I’m pregnant… which did feel quite crazy,” she said. “I loved the way it looked. It made me want to do it, to be pregnant.”

Fanning has the third season of The Great premiering on Hulu next month, and Minghella will continue his role as Nick Blaine in the sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale, hitting Hulu in 2024.
