At GRAZIA, we’re all about promoting and talking about the unsung fashion heroes of the modern day, and we’ve been having a really great time seeing ever look Elle Fanning has been bringing to the table lately. She’s been at this for a while, but the moment that sticks out in our head as a foundational garment was her chain-bodice gown at the 6th Annual InStyle Awards on November 15, as well as her sheer dress at the LACMA Art+Film Gala. The second we saw that, we knew that Fanning was about to become the newest style icon we needed to talk about.
Fanning largely works with stylist Samantha McMillen, who also happens to style her sister, Dakota Fanning as well. So let’s take a look at some of her best, most recent looks.
All The Bright Places screening
In the first of three all-black ensembles, and the first of two Gucci outfits, Fanning wore this Gucci jumpsuit with a geometric peak-a-boo to the All The Bright Places screening on February 24, 2020. And let’s not ignore the statement, floral gold choker.
The Roads Not Taken Berlinale Film Festival Premiere
Of course, we wanted to talk about this Armani Prive moment from the ‘The Roads Not Taken’ Berlinale Film Festival from February 26, 2020. The most recent celebrity to pull from this collection was Lady Gaga at the House of Gucci premiere in New York City. Forget about blue velvet, the newest, hottest thing is black velvet. With a dramatic train and a tailored bodice, this look truly stole the red carpet.
Streetwear outside of Jimmy Kimmel Live
Of course, red carpet fashion is great, but we should also appreciate some of Fanning’s streetwear style as well. In this periwinkle midi dress, Fanning gave a sort of traditional style a modern spin. She was seen wearing this outfit outside of the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles before her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2020.
10th Annual LACMA ART+FILM GALA
This moment was jaw-dropping, to say the least. It was one of Fanning’s first major looks after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, so we had a little hiatus when it came to iconic outfits. But it’s safe to say that she came back with a bang in this Gucci dress at the LACMA Film+Art Gala in early November. Sheer with panels of opaque black, tied off with a floral choker, this could be seen as an elevated version of what Fanning wore to the All The Bright Places screening in 2020.
Vulture Festival 2021
Giving businesswoman, Fanning wore this Vivienne Westwood corset and slacks combo to the 2021 Vulture Festival. A departure away from her usual gown, this outfit was a refreshing take on a much different aesthetic for Fanning.
The Great Premiere
You know how we just said that the Vivienne Westwood in the previous look was a refreshing look for Fanning? Well, itt’s never a bad thing to return back to the classics. Channeling the same color scheme as before, Fanning wore an Atelier Versace Gown for this event alongside Fred Leighton Jewelry for some extra sparkle.
2021 InStyle Awards
Here it is, the most recent Fanning look on everyone’s lips. Wearing Olivier Rousteing’s latest presentation for Balmain, Fanning stepped on to the red carpet for this event with a large, chunky chain bodice with a sleek black skirt for the 2021 InStyle Awards. If we’ve learned anything from this list so far, it’s that Fanning loves a statement bodice.
Jimmy Kimmel Live, Part two
With this look, Fanning redefined Pretty in Pink with an Oscar de la Renta confection. Bubblegum pink, full of whimsy and character, this dress made quite the impression for Fanning’s second appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
