Rap phenom Doja Cat made another stop on our journey to Planet Her. The Grammy-nominated artist’s latest single, “Need to Know,” continues on into space, but this time we’re introduced to a couple more extraterrestrial gal-pals. The visual follows the 25-year-old rapper hitting the town with her alien girl group — Hello Grimes and Ryan Destiny — as they zoom from her space home to the nightclub in a self-driving convertible car. The night gets even sexier when Doja and her girls take shots of smoky vapor-like alcohol and she shares a dance with her man. The music video teases all the futuristic alien visuals Doja plans to give us with her sophomore album.

“Need to Know” is the second single from her forthcoming album, Planet Her, which is set to release on June 25. Her latest work is a follow-up to 2019’s Hot Pink. The Planet Her tracklist features the SZA-assisted hit “Kiss Me More,” plus songs with The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Young Thug, and J.I.D. Doja’s Planet Her era is set to pivot the artist into a more creative space that feels all her own. “I think in the beginning, I was just trying to be solid and be what a pop artist already was, what I’d seen on TV and what I thought was the right thing to do,” Doja said in an interview with Billboard back in April. “But as I move on into this Planet Her era, I want to introduce things to people as opposed to just re-create and rehash. It’s just more inspiring to start from a more innovative spot.”

Her creative director, Brett Alan Nelson, although skeptical at first of a futuristic theme, saw how unique Doja’s perspective will be. “We’re doing a style of futurism that feels fresh,” Nelson told Billboard. “We don’t know what our actual future holds, so we are making what Doja Cat’s future is. It doesn’t feel like we’re paying homage to something; it doesn’t seem like we’re on the same Pinterest board as everyone else.” Co-collaborator, The Weeknd, shares a similar belief of how talented the Billboard Music award-winning artist is. “Doja is a star and has created a unique universe you just want to lose yourself in,” The Weeknd told Billboard. “She’s got such drive and vast creative vision that we will be seeing her impact for a very long time to come.”
