For all of us who’ve longed for the deafening roar of crowds and the pilgrimage of strangers to arenas to revel in the presence of our favorite artists, concert films are our nostalgic reminders of our lives before a year shuttered indoors. As theater openings are at full tilt and we’re penning film premieres into our girls night out rendezvous, we’d be remiss not to alert you of the latest concert film coming to the international silver screen: BLACKPINK The Movie.

The groundbreaking K-Pop group’s newest documentary chronicles the epic moments that catapulted them into the global spotlight. With never-before-seen footage of their rehearsals and personal reflections on their stardom, the bandmates — Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa, and Rosé — refreshingly open up on the intimate parts of fame.

Live footage from their 2018 In Your Area tour and their 2021 The Show livestream concert looks back at their monumental start and glorious reign as one of the most popular global girl groups to date. The movie’s release is in tandem with their fifth anniversary celebration, “4+1 Project.” And from the snippets of the sit-down interviews, the film also lands as an ode to the girl squad’s beloved BLINKS. “I want to say thank you for always supporting me, and that’s all,” Lisa tearfully remarks in the clip.

In October 2020, BLACKPINK’s Light Up the Sky premiered, a compelling Netflix documentary set forth to uncover the trials that marked the well-manicured phenomenon. Yet, over a year a later and another epic album, its time for the popstars to reintroduce the humanity that glistens behind blinding stage lights.

And as always, here’s a brief refresher on our flurry of BLACKPINK updates. Jennie has been recently spotted with a number of the pop genre’s powerhouses so an international crossover may be in our future. Lisa has also been cozied in the studio and her forthcoming solo debut is set to hit airwaves this summer.

BLACKPINK The Movie hits theaters August 4.
