If there were ever an occasion for celebs to really have fun
with their evening wear, it would be to celebrate Hollywood’s most
prized costume designers in the business. For the 24th
annual Costume Designers Guild Awards, the stars took advantage of
the opportunity, exuding playful opulence for the grand event.
Academy Award-nominated actress Ariana DeBose presented the
award for Excellence in Contemporary Film to Oscar winner Ruth E.
Carter for her work in Coming 2 America. DeBose chose a
sculptural black Moschino Fall/Winter 2022 dress for the occasion,
styled by Zadrian Smith and Sarah Edmiston, which was just recently
donned by model Bella Hadid on the runway.
Euphoria‘s Storm Reid stepped out in a custom Prada
black lace dress, styled by Jason Bolden. Regal and demure, Reid
displayed a quiet elegance, highlighting her sartorial maturity.
Laura Dern was also on-hand in an eye-popping red suit with
colorblock accessories, as was Spotlight Award honoree Andrew
Garfield in custom Saint Laurent.
Joking on Twitter, the Costume Designers Guild Award’s
official page quote tweeted the account of CDG Local 892 writing,
“The 24th #CDGA Spotlight Award honoree Andrew Garfield apologizes
… ‘sorry, my Prada’s at the cleaners.’ with the response, “This
custom YSL will have to do.”
Bel-Air
newcomers Coco Jones and Jabari Banks flexed their fashion bona
fides in a pale pink gown and a light blue
velvet suit, respectively. And Just Like That star Karen Pittman rocked ivory
feathers while Oscar-winning Mira Sorvino donned a baby blue satin
gown with a black bow belt and matching opera gloves.
Winners of the night included Jacqueline
West and Robert Morgan who took home the award for Excellence in
Sci-Fi//Fantasy Film for Dune, Patricia Field and Marylin
Fitoussi snagged the award for Excellence in Contemporary
Television for their work in Emily in Paris. Jenny Beaven was granted the award for
Excellence in Period Film for
Cruella and Sharon Long won for Excellence in Period
Television for her sumptuous designs in The Great.
