In another new twist to the game of designer musical chairs, Jeremy Scott will be exiting his role as creative director of Moschino. As an arbiter of cheeky, avant-garde fashion, Scott proved to be the ideal choice when he took the reins of Franco Moschino’s storied Italian fashion house in 2013.

“After 10 years, I am announcing today that I will be leaving Moschino,” Scott shared on social media. “I’ve had a blast creating designs that will live on forever. I am grateful for all the love and support I’ve received over this past decade. 🙏🏽 As I close this chapter, I am filled with excitement & anticipation, and can’t wait to share with you all what I have in store for you next!”

In an official statement released by the brand, Scott said, “These past 10 years at Moschino have been a wonderful celebration of creativity and imagination. I am so proud of the legacy I am leaving behind. I would like to thank Massimo Ferretti for the honor of leading this iconic house.”

He added, “I would also like to thank all my fans around the world who celebrated me, my collections, and my vision; for without you, none of this would be possible.”

Mixing his signature spice and humorous wit, Scott revived the 30-year-old house into one of the most exciting luxury labels today. After starting his own eponymous line in 1997, Scott garnered a reputation for his radical designs, conceptual collections and rebellious creative ethos. He brought that design DNA to Moschino, which was already known for its tongue-in-cheek, rule-breaking aesthetic. The pairing turned out to be a match made in fashion heaven.

“I am fortunate to have had the opportunity of working with the creative force that is Jeremy Scott,” said Massimo Ferretti, Chairman of Moschino’s parent company Aeffe S.p.A. in a statement. “I would like to thank him for his ten years of commitment to Franco Moschino’s legacy House and for ushering in a distinct and joyful vision that will forever be a part of Moschino history.”

Scott has dressed countless celebrities in Moschino, from Gwen Stefani to Lizzo and Katy Perry (remember that Met Gala hamburger dress?). He most recently designed Angela Bassett’s gown for the 2023 Academy Awards.

The most recent Moschino runway show took place during Milan Fashion Week last month. The Fall/Winter 2023 collection paid homage to Salvador Dalí’s 1931 painting, The Persistence of Memory (the one with the melting clocks) with suiting featuring undulating lines, followed by a sharp left turn into punk territory and a colorful finale complete with voluminous gowns in Fanta orange and shocking pink.

Known for sprinkling his irreverent collections with a myriad of pop culture references, Scott has drawn inspiration from McDonalds, Barbie, paper dolls, Looney Toons, SpongeBob, Jackie Kennedy, Marie Antoinette and Pablo Picasso, fusing his various influences with high-octane glamor.

We can’t wait to see what the designer has up his sleeve for this next chapter. Stay tuned for updates.
