While watching Netflix’s hit show Emily in Paris, it’s easy to compare it to Sex and the City — a series that debuted in the ’90s, which featured Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), a sex columnist who is navigating New York City’s dating scene alongside her three pals.

Well, surprise — Sex and the City and Emily in Paris were both created by Darren Star, so if you think Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) and Carrie would be friends, then you’re most likely right.

When asked about the parallels between the two worlds, the 32-year-old said: “A woman moving to a different country, it’s very different from Carrie Bradshaw.”

However, she believes that “Emily grew up loving Carrie Bradshaw. Like I did,” she shared. “I think that each woman in our show is very unapologetically themselves. And I always love in Sex And The City, that each of the women were unapologetically who they were. They loved their job; they loved love; they loved fashion; they loved the city; they loved adventure.”

She continued, “There’s a deep openness within our cast on-screen and behind the camera, that there’s not a fear of looking a certain way with your friends, that I value. I don’t want to feel judged by my friends. I don’t mind being called out … but I don’t want to feel judged. And I felt like those four women really relied on one another to call themselves out and to support them. And I think it’s important to show that in friendships and in sisterhoods — and I think that this show allows for that. And you know, it’s also, of course, bright and bold and bubbly and fashion-forward and fun!”

It’s unclear if Carrie and Emily will ever meet on television, but there is a fan theory floating around that Carrie’s pal Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) could pop up in season 3.

In the season 2 finale, Emily has to think about if she wants to stay in Paris, as she scored a job offer. If she does stick around, then Samantha — who currently lives in London, as Carrie revealed in Sex and the City‘s sequel, And Just Like That — could take a train ride over to the City of Light.

“Current theory: Samantha has supposedly moved overseas, hence her lack of presence in the new SATC TV series. Then she shows up by total surprise in a crossover episode of EMILY IN PARIS,” one person wrote on Twitter. “I would watch Samantha try to tolerate Emily, 100 percent.”

Others believe that Emily could visit Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) in London — and Samantha may just show up.

“Emily moves to London to follow Alfie and finds herself in a new position working for Samantha Jones PR,” one fan speculated.

Looks like we have to wait for the two worlds to collide … for now!
