Wellbeing supplements are nothing new – in fact, they’re everywhere. Open Instagram or TikTok and you’re all but drowning in sponsored posts of influencers recommending some supplement or other. It’s become a bit of a meme at this point. In a bid to cut through the noise and separate the good from the bad, I’ve rounded up my favourite well-being supplements to keep your mind, body and soul in tip-top condition.

Before I dive in, it’s worth noting that supplements are only effective if your diet is lacking in whatever the supplement is trying to, well, supplement your diet with. The reason they work so well is because modern-day diets are unlikely to already include everything you need to achieve a symbiosis between your inner and outer self. Wellbeing supplements therefore work by topping up your diet with just the right amount of purposeful ingredients, helping you to tackle your wellbeing concerns with a more holistic approach.

MOON JUICE

Brain Dust herbal supplement by Moon Juice
Brain Dust, Dhs337, SHOP NOW

A personal fave of mine (I keep a pot on my desk at all times), Moon Juice’s cutely named Moon Dust is chock-full of herbs and mushrooms – think: lion’s mane and ashwagandha – that work together to target signs of stress and fatigue by supporting mental stamina, alertness, memory function and concentration. After finally catching Covid-19 last winter and suffering with its mind-fogging after-effects, this pot has been a godsend. I like to add it to a smoothie with bananas, peanut butter, spinach and Free Soul protein (more on this below!).

FREE SOUL

Free Soul Protein Powder packshot
Vanilla Vegan Protein Blend, Dhs155, SHOP NOW

My brother is a “gym bro”, and I’d always scoff at his protein intake. I mean, who needs protein smoothies, protein Weetabix, protein bars and protein-rich meals? The point is, I never thought I’d be the kind of person to supplement my diet with protein. Then came along Free Soul with its pretty pink branding (I’m a sucker, I know), and I’m obsessed. Not only does it taste delicious and pudding-like, but it’s formulated especially for women with a blend of nutrients, vitamins and minerals to support hormone balance, mood and energy levels. It also contains iron, which is not only ideal for me personally (because I’m always on-the-floor tired only to see a doctor and return home armed with iron tablets), but for women in general, as we can lack iron due to our periods.

THE NUE CO

Water Therapy Fragrance Supplement, Dhs340, SHOP NOW

I recently started wild swimming. By “wild swimming” I don’t mean in the sea and sun, I mean in English ponds and lakes amidst leaves, mud and foxes. Even in freezing temps. When I tell you that it’s done wonders for my mental health, I really mean it. I’ve experienced nothing else like it. There’s something about being so connected with nature, so free, that just melts away your anxieties. So, when I read about The Nue Co’s “fragrance supplements” and, more specifically, Water Therapy, I may have literally clapped my hands with glee. Who knew wellbeing supplements came in fragrance form?!

According to The Nue Co, “Spending time near water and marine environments is proven to be beneficial for our mental wellbeing, stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing stress and helping to bring a feeling of calm”. By replicating this feeling of being in or around water with notes of seaweed, salt, cardamom and rose, Water Therapy helps to relax and reduce stress using olfactory technology – no actual water required. Basically, your nose’s olfactory receptors send signals to your brain’s olfactory bulb, and this information is then passed on to the limbic system, which partly controls mood and behaviour. According to their consumer trials, the brand says 94% of participants felt less stressed, and 84% felt their anxiety levels were reduced just 30 minutes after spritzing. Wild.

UAE Peptides

A packshot of Ovary Bioregulator wellbeing supplements by UAE Peptides
Ovary Bioregulator, Dhs245, SHOP NOW

It’s no secret that female reproductive health has historically lacked the attention it so deserves; those with ovaries can struggle with undiagnosed issues like PCOS, fibroids or endometriosis for years, and everyday ailments like cramps, hot flushes and mood swings aren’t always taken seriously. UAE Peptides is changing this with their Ovary Bioregulator supplements, which are specifically designed to ease such symptoms by regulating your ovaries’ production of oestrogen and progesterone. These capsules are ideal for those going through perimenopause or menopause too, as they help relieve symptoms like poor sleep, vaginal dryness and low libido.

It might just be my algorithm, but I swear everyone on TikTok has gut problems. IBS is rife amongst young women online, with videos of bloated tummies and jokes about the after-effects of eating various foods filling my FYP on a daily basis. If you’re one of us sensitive-tummied folk but don’t want to cut out your favourite foods, allow me to introduce you to Flatter Me. Pumped with powerful digestive enzymes, it helps to break down proteins, carbs, fibre, lactose and fats for better digestive function and reduced bloating. You’re welcome.
