Courteney Cox has set the record straight about one of the headline-making revelations that came from Prince Harry’s recently-released memoir, Spare.
In case you missed it, amid all of the stories, the Duke of Sussex dropped a few Hollywood names in the mix, including that of Friends alum, Cox. Thankfully, Cox didn’t have anything to do with the above, but she did get caught up in an anecdote about psychedelic drugs.
During one part of Spare, Harry wrote about a time when he was staying at Cox’s house in early 2016 — the same year he met his wife, Meghan Markle — and found some mushroom chocolates in the fridge. “Somebody behind me said they were for everybody,” he wrote. “Help yourself, boys. My mate and I grabbed several, gobbled them, washed them down with tequila.”
Soon after, the prince found himself in a bathroom as the drugs began kicking in. “Beside the toilet was a round silver bin, the kind with a foot pedal to open the lid,” he said. “I started at the bin. It started back. What—staring? I stepped on the pedal. A huge open grin. Now the loo became a head too. The bowl was its gaping me, the hinges of the seat were its piercing silver eyes. It said: Aaah.”
Now, Cox has addressed the story, confirming Harry was her guest, but denying she had anything to do with the ‘shrooms — well, not the giving them to Prince Harry part, anyway.
“He did stay here for a couple of days—probably two or three,” the actress said in a recent interview with Variety. “I’m not saying there were mushrooms!” she added. But “I definitely wasn’t passing them out.”
Cox said she hasn’t had a chance to read the book yet, but that she’s “heard it’s really entertaining,” noting she saw Harry at a mutual friend’s birthday party recently, but didn’t say hi as he was engaged in a different conversation.
At least now they’ll have an interesting topic to talk about next time they bump into each other…
