Ever wondered what luxury fashion brand is the most popular? Look no further than this recent study by the creative resource Design Bundles, which calculated the most influential luxury fashion brands in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The study included 76 different brands and determined their influence using data from Instagram and Google, in addition to the number of articles mentioning the brands in the media over the span of the last year. We think the findings might surprise you.

1. Chanel

Chanel is the most influential fashion brand, raking in 70 million hashtags on Instagram and almost one million Google searches over this past year. The brand has had many exciting moments, like closing its SS22 show with a model on horseback. However, this surge in searches also follows the brand’s uptick in pricing: the cost of Chanel’s Classic Flap bag increased three times in 2021 and once more again this year. It was a seemingly arbitrary change that ended up being viewed as a betrayal by the brand’s loyalists. Despite this controversy–and Chanel’s TikTok controversy–it remains the highest searched and hashtagged brand, proving once again that no press is bad press.

2. Gucci

According to the study, Gucci is the second most popular brand in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, but is ranked number one internationally. This comes after the Italian fashion brand’s big year online, from announcing its plans to develop virtual real estate in the Metaverse to its latest NFT collection, 10KFT Gucci Grail.  Could Gucci’s bold strides into Web3 be strengthening its online presence overall?

3. Dior

Dior is number three on Design Bundles’s list, with 57 million total online mentions over the past year. This comes off the heels of the French fashion brand going viral on TikTok, as beauty buffs could not get enough of Dior’s now-notorious Lip Glow Oil. Not only is it sold out everywhere, but it’s likely that the product is partially responsible for the brand’s strong digital presence.

4. Louis Vuitton

Instagram @louisvuitton

Louis Vuitton may be fourth on the list, but this French fashion brand is number one for the highest number of online searches over the past year at a booming 2,262,000 (almost double the second most Googled brand, Dior). This comes after a great year for the brand as well as a loss within the company and the wider fashion community: the artistic director of menswear at Louis Vuitton, the late Virgil Abloh, passed away in November 2021. The walloping amount of searches seems justified, given the impact of this news.

5. Fendi

Instagram @fendi

According to the study, Fendi is the fifth most influential fashion brand in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The Italian fashion house accumulated a total of 36 million Instagram hashtags and 49 article mentions over the past year. Fendi has been buzzing with exciting brand collaborations, including a collection with Kim Kardashian’s brand, Skims, as well as a collection with the Italian heritage brand, Versace. Clothing from these collections is on the most-wanted list for fashion enthusiasts–it’s no wonder why the brand made Design Bundles’s Top 5.
