Rooted in heritage, perfume and oil have played essential roles in the traditions of the Middle East for thousands of years. Dating back to the ages of Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt, ben oil, derived from the Moringa oleifera and Moringa peregrina trees, was used in symbolic purification gestures during religious ceremonies of the third millennium BCE. Such traditions were then anchored by Saudi Arabia when establishing a shared cultural heritage with neighbouring Egypt, in turn, playing a pivotal role in the expansion of perfumery between the East and the West over time.

To this day, the Moringa peregrina tree is still found in the AlUla region of Saudi Arabia, from which peregrina oil is derived. Fusing the legacy of this sacred oil with the olfactory expertise of Cartier, the French luxury house introduces its new body ritual: Les Bases à Parfumer.

Known for its moisturising properties, peregrina oil is central to Cartier’s newly introduced ritual, combined with its four Gouttes de Parfum Concentré: La Panthère, Oud & Santal, l’Heure Diaphane and Pure Rose, each of which is composed of 50 per cent perfume concentrate and 50 per cent peregrina oil.

Curated by Cartier perfumer Mathilde Laurent, Les Bases à Parfumer makes for a fully customisable and all-encompassing ritual, featuring three luxurious products: L’Huile Pure from Cartier Bases à Parfumer, La Crème Pure from Cartier Bases à Parfumer and Les Gouttes de Parfum Concentré. “Les Bases à Parfumer offer a fragrance ritual that is true to our times: the freedom to do it yourself, for yourself, whatever your desires,” she affirms.

Les Gouttes de Parfum Concentré

La Panthère, Oud & Santal, l’Heure Diaphane and Pure Rose, four of Cartier’s most emblematic perfumes, are the final chapter in the Les Bases à Parfumer ritual. Equal parts perfume concentrate and peregrina oil, one drop from one of the 15ml bottles of highly concentrated, alcohol-free oils will leave an intense fragrance, as well as a lasting impression.
