Blonde? Brunette? It’s the age-old dilemma most of us ricochet between all our lives. But trust Miley Cyrus to show us all how to live the best of both worlds with her new Y2k-inspired hair hue.

Attending The Daily Front Row’s seventh annual Fashion Los Angeles Awards at The Beverly Hills Hotel, the singer debuted a dramatic new do that feels like a nostalgic nod to her former Hannah Montana alter ego.

Having just been rocking a two-tone look with a top layer of platinum blonde over a bottom layer of dark brown for her ‘Flowers’ era, Cyrus surprised fans when she had decidedly switched up her locks once again—this time bringing the dark brown on top with a chunky money piece and Christina Aguilera-esque streaks. While the ‘marble cake’ like tone is a divisive one, it’s definitely the kind of 2000s-style beauty we’re expecting more of in 2023.

Further images posted to her Instagram gave us a close-up of the new look, as well as her all-black Versace cone-bra look with black leather gloves.

Though she’s still got some muted, ashy blonde in there, the dominating brown hue marks the first time she’s been (mostly) brunette in over a decade. Earlier this year, the 30-year-old revealed that she had actually wished to go darker with her hair for the new year, but her godmother Dolly Parton talked her out of it.

In an interview with TODAY, Cyrus explained that she intended to dye her hair dark for Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party, which she co-hosted with Parton, but the country music icon did not stand for it. “I’ve never seen Dolly actually scared before,” she recalled. “[Parton] acted like I told her the worst news you could imagine.”
