The 2023 Met Gala is sure to be a major event on the social calendars of celebrities. But sadly for some, rumours are running amuck about a mass snubbing for this year’s red carpet.

In a bid to scale back the event, it’s said that Wintour is looking to cut down the already-exclusive guest list. And according to an initial report by Page Six, the entire Kardashian-Jenner clan might be on Anna Wintour‘s chopping block. While a source close to the Kardashians later told the outlet that the rumours were false, it’s unclear whether the family will be in attendance.

Wintour, who has overseen the theme and guest list since 1995, has not commented on any of the rumours.

If the royal family of reality TV are, in fact, ‘uninvited’, it would be the first time that a member of the squad hasn’t attended the event in a decade, with the entire family attending for the first time together last year. Kim Kardashian was famously the first of her family to score a ticket, joining then-husband Kanye West while pregnant with North West in an infamous Givenchy ensemble. But as we know, they haven’t always elicited an amorous welcome from the fashion set.

Before her Met Gala debut, it was long-rumoured that Wintour disapproved of the Kardashians. Kim allegedly was blacklisted from the event until she began dating West, who shared a close working relationship with Wintour. In 2014, Kim landed her first ever Vogue feature—on the cover, no less—alongside her then-husband. And though it was a controversial choice that left many readers vexed, Wintour lamented that she must acknowledge them as part of “the conversation of the day”.

From there, the Kardashians have rapidly grown to become one of the most influential families in the world, generating a heap of coverage for the Met Gala as a result of their controversial outfits. Wintour and Kim have even appeared to become friends in recent years, with the SKIMS mogul earning solo covers of the US Vogue in May 2019 and March 2022.

Other celebrities rumoured to be off the 2023 Met Gala guest list include a host of famous faces who have spoken publicly about their negative experiences at the event. Counting themselves as the vocal—and likely-axed—includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Tina Fey, Lena Dunham, Demi Lovato, Jameela Jamil and Amy Schumer. And after criticising Kim Kardashian’s crash diet for fitting into Marilyn Monroe’s iconic gown, actress Lili Reinhart said in an interview that she didn’t think she’d be invited back to the fashion fete.

This year’s Met Gala theme will serve as a tribute to the late creative director Karl Lagerfeld, who passed away in 2019 after overseeing the creative direction for Chanel and Fendi for over decades. It will be co-chaired by Wintour, Dua Lipa, Michaela Coel, Penélope Cruz, Roger Federer and Andrew Bolton, The Met Museum’s Costume Center curator.
