It’s officially the first Monday in May, also known, to those who celebrate, as Met Gala Monday. After two years of disruption due to the pandemic, 2022’s upcoming fashion event marks the first time the Met Gala has taken place at its scheduled annual time since 2019.
Known as one of the biggest red carpet and celebrity events of the year, the Met Gala is notoriously hard to score an invite to. With Vogue US’s Anna Wintour in charge of the guest list, unless you’re deemed A list, and more importantly, fashionable, enough, you likely won’t be walking the Met steps Monday night.
Two people who reportedly received an exclusive invite for the first time ever this year are Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, who have been the only ones of the Kardashian-Jenner sisters to never attend the event.
According to The Post, almost the entire family will be in attendance, including Kim Kardashian (rumoured to be wearing this iconic dress) with her boyfriend Pete Davidson; Kourtney, who will make her Met debut with fiancé Travis Barker, and Khloé, also making her Met debut. Kris Jenner will also be there and so too will the youngest of the sisters, Kendall and Kylie Jenner.
This is a momentous occasion for the family, who were once rumoured to be deemed too ‘tacky’ to attend the iconic Met Gala, which has played host to everyone from Princess Diana to Jackie O and Bianca Jagger over the years. Kim was the first to score an invite back in 2013, but only as her husband, Kanye West’s, plus one. Since then, she’s been attending year on year and dubs the night her favourite event of the year.
The publication notes, Rob Kardashian, who avoids the spotlight wherever he can, and who is currently embroiled in a court battle with former girlfriend Blac Chyna, likely wouldn’t have scored an invite. Apparently, neither Kylie’s partner, Travis Scott, who has been keeping a low profile since the November 2021 AstroWorld tragedy, nor West, will attend this year, either.
Following the reports, Khloe Kardashian was spotted touching down in New York City.
This year’s Met Gala theme is Guilded Glamour so we can expect a lot of Kardashian-Jenner sequins and gold incoming.
