The first Monday in May is getting close, and on Wednesday more details about fashion’s biggest night was finally revealed. Vogue announced the 2023 co-chairs and the official dress code, which will coincide with the exhibition dedicated to the late designer Karl Lagerfeld’s legacy.

Singer Dua Lipa, I May Destroy You star Michaela Coel, Oscar-winner Penélope Cruz and tennis champion Roger Federer will co-chair the celeb-filled night, along with Vogue’s Anna Wintour.

It was previously revealed in September that the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute will honor the life and work of the late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld with the exhibition titled, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” And to coincide with the exhibition’s theme, the official dress code for guests at the 2023 Met Gala will be “In honor of Karl.”

When Vogue announced the news, it offered attendees three options to appropriately honor the legendary designer. First, people could wear something from the archives from one of the many labels Lagerfeld designed for, or they could wear something from current Chanel and Fendi collections, where his indelible mark is still influencing designs. A third idea was to fully dress “à la Lagerfeld.” No matter what guests decide, the directive is very clear: “do him proud!”

Wintour and the Costume Institute’s head curator Andrew Bolton made the exhibition announcement last fall in Pairs from Lagerfeld’s former studio and library, the 7L bookshop.

Vogue reported that the exhibition will include 150 designs (as well as sketches) from Lagerfeld that “explore the designer’s stylistic language” from his time helming the fashion brands, Fendi, Chloé and Chanel, along with creations he made at Balmain and Patou, and items from his namesake label.

Mark your calendar’s — May 1 will be here soon and we can’t wait to see what looks are in store for the 2023 Met Gala!
