Sheikh Zayed Road, the busiest highway in Dubai, is set to close temporarily over the National Day weekend.

It was announced by the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) via Dubai Media Office on Tuesday evening that traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road towards Abu Dhabi from Trade Centre Roundabout all the way to the Expo Intersection will be rerouted starting December 1 and ending on December 3, 2023.

The reroute will occur daily during this period from 7am to 11am.

This has been in conjunction with UN Climate Change Conference COP28 and UAE National Day weekend.

Traffic will be diverted to different routes including: Jumeirah St, Al Wasl Road, Al Khail Rd, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Rd and Emirates Rd.

UAE National Day weekend

This weekend marks the 52nd UAE National Day, celebrating 52 years since the unification of the emirates.

It will mark a three-day weekend for public and private sector employees, as Monday, December 4 has been declared a public holiday by the UAE Cabinet and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

The first day of the Gregorian calendar, New Year’s Day, observed on January 1, 2024, will be a public holiday for those in the UAE. Falling on a Monday next year, there will be a three-day weekend to start 2024, with employees in the public and private sectors returning to work on January 2, 2024.
