The much-anticipated season two of AlRawabi School for Girls is finally on our screens, transporting us back to the drama-fuelled world of high school.

Created by renowned director and writer, Tima Shomali, season two of the Jordanian coming-of-age drama explored the untapped territory of Arab film and television: the struggles and stories of teenage girlhood.

Last season, we followed the chronicles of young Mariam as she sought vengeance on her tormentors by uniting the school outcasts. This season, it seems the girls are reaping the consequences of their actions with new challenges and growing pains to work through and overcome.

With an entirely new cast featuring Tara Abboud (Sarah), Tara Atalla (Nadeen), Sarah Youseff (Tasneem), Kira Yaghnam (Hiba), Thalia Alansari (Shams) and Raneem Haitham (Farah), the latest season of AlRawabi School for Girls will explore new themes and tap even to more unchartered territories when it comes to Arab television.

Ahead of the premiere of the newest season, GRAZIA was lucky enough to sit down with a few of the cast members, namely Thalia, Kira and Tara, who all discussed the important messages AlRawabi School for Girls aims to explore and highlight.

“I think it’s going to create very important conversations and create bridges between the generational gaps it’s a rollercoaster of emotions,” affirmed Kira, who plays the role of Hiba in the series.

It’s a season which explores the trials and tribulations of social media amongst young girls and the issues that can occur in the overconsumption of it, particularly the need for validation.

“Just watching [the show] healed us in a way,” added Thalia. “It makes you feel heard, it makes you feel seen. It makes you feel like what you’re going through… you’re not alone. Many people are experiencing the same issues or sensitive topics that you’re dealing with.”

For Tara, however, one of the most important themes that is explored in season two is the relationships parents share with their children.

“One of the most important messages is to encourage parents and their sons and daughters to have better relationships… be more open, communicate,” she explained. “Take care of your children and make sure that you have a really good relationship with them.”

Season two of AlRawabi School for Girls is now streaming on Netflix.
